The Automation Engineer- DC is responsible for the on-going support, testing, maintenance, and implementation of automation systems that operate within UNFI's distribution centers. This role works closely with Maintenance teams to ensure the automation systems continue operational excellence. This role works towards improving business operations and create efficiencies through DC automation.
Job Responsibilities:
Automation Engineering
Design, configure and testing of DC automation systems which includes conveyor systems, multi shuttles, pick to light, pick to voice, carousels, WCS application servers, MHE based applications, distribution equipment and RF devices
Configure and conduct any testing required within system and complies with safety regulations
Gather process requirements from key DC in house associates and vendors and ensures systems support process requirements
Collaborates with inhouse associates and vendors on daily processes, projects, support, and maintenance
Creates documentation around issues, technical design, process, resolutions and tracks calls using Remedy System and follows up with users on Open Tickets
Develops and maintains technical documentation of networks, systems and associated architecture
System Maintenance:
Supports lower-level maintenance technicians in diagnosing equipment issues or in complex and difficult repairs, adjustments and part replacements.
Supports technicians in maintaining decorating, capping, welding, and conveyor equipment.
Supports third party vendors when required during equipment installations.
Supports the creation of work orders and preventive maintenance documentation.
Job Requirements:
Requires a high school diploma/GED and completion of a craft apprenticeship, or an equivalent number of years of education and production maintenance experience
0-3 years' experience in materials handling experience preferably in warehousing, distribution environments
0-3 years' experience in manufacturing and PLC
0-3 years' experience working with PLC's, photo eyes, diffusers, Barcode scanners, diverters, label printers, access points
0-3 years' experience in warehouse technology such as Pick to Light and Pick to Voice, Allen Bradley RSLogix 500 and RSLogix 5000 PLC software
Knowledge of safety rules and procedures
Knowledge and understanding of electrical, pneumatic systems, conveyors, motors and packaging equipment
Demonstrated knowledge of AC and DC electrical systems and circuits.
Demonstrated knowledge of the following software programs; MS office suite, Adobe Professional, Autocad, MS Visio
Working knowledge of Psion, Symbol and Motorola Access Points and RF Devices
Physical Environment/Demands:
50% of travel is required which may include unplanned travel
Exposed to temperatures ranging from -20• to 35• Fahrenheit in Perishable Operation and 37• to 90• Fahrenheit in Grocery Operation.
Ability to do repetitious arm, wrist, and hand movements required for maintenance and service procedures.
Must be able to work with hands and arms overhead, and to work in or under the equipment.
Requires manual dexterity, overall coordination, and good balance to work both at ground level and in high places to perform job duties. Ability to operate work related equipment.
Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
