Overview:

Quinnipiac University's College of Arts & Sciences invites applications for a new and exciting role as Director of Theater Production and Programing. This position will provide leadership of all theatrical activities on campus to create a more vibrant theatrical community on a campus that hosts a theater minor and student theater groups. The selected candidate will oversee mainstage performances, liaise with student theater groups, establish campus-wide and community collaborations, and help raise the profile of the arts as an extra- and co-curricular activity.

The position reports to the Dean of the College of Arts & Sciences with a dotted reporting line and possible courtesy faculty appointment (depending on credentials and experience) in the Department of Visual and Performing Arts. This is a 10-month position (August-May), with the possibility of extra compensation during summer months when needed for work on special projects and initiatives. Start date is expected to be May 31, 2025.

• Plan and oversee the annual mainstage season, typically consisting of two major productions, including one musical. Supervise the production elements of all student theater productions and non-theater performances


• Hire and supervise professional artists to work within the production season, including directors, designers, musicians, and technical directors


• Coordinate the recruitment and training of students from across Quinnipiac's nine schools to serve as actors, stage managers, technicians, crew, house managers, box-office staff, and ushers


• Ensure that safe and inclusive professional practices are maintained throughout all areas of production. Maintain safety protocols and procedures to ensure maximum student safety


• Ensure the proper use and reservation of the Theater Arts Center for student theater groups and non-theater performances


• Develop new opportunities to expand the use of our theater facilities outside of our academic programs, such as the rental of the facility to outside organizations and the development of high school summer camps and programming


• Devise and implement additional theater opportunities as needed, including workshops, guest artist performances, and other theater-related opportunities for students


• Contribute to at least one production each season according to area of expertise (Directing productions is preferred, but not required)


• Candidates who hold a master's degree will teach one course per semester. Candidates with a bachelor's degree may be eligible to teach based on experience.


• Manage and allocate the annual production budget of approximately $110,000


• Write and submit grant applications that could support the expansion of programming


• Maintain and cultivate donor and patron relationships and partner with the Dean's Office on establishing philanthropic priorities


• Coordinate publicity and marketing efforts, in coordination with our office of Marketing and Communications


• Be willing to serve as advisor and mentor for student theater groups


• Coordinate the allocation of rehearsal and performance spaces for the student theater company at the Theater Arts Center for their student-run theater season, typically two productions per academic year


• Collaborate with faculty and staff from across the university on innovative, interdisciplinary theater programing


• Perform other duties as assigned by the Dean

Education Requirements:

• Bachelor's degree required


• Master's degree preferred

Qualifications:

At least three years of relevant experience in theater management, including budgeting, scheduling, program development, recruiting and supervising staff

Excellent organizational, interpersonal and communication skills

Ability to coordinate the technical components of theater productions

Ability to work independently as well as function as a part of a team

Ability to develop community partnerships

Ability to adapt to change and balance competing priorities

Experience in fundraising and grant writing

Demonstrated ability to work with diverse populations and a commitment to diversity and inclusion
