The Ohio State University College of Dentistry seeks a Dental Assistant to join its Advanced Prosthodontics Education Program in the Restorative Science and Prosthodontics The Ohio State University College of Dentistry is the fourth largest public dental school in the United States and it is the only public dental school in Ohio. The college is divided into ten divisions with all major ADA-recognized dental specialties represented. The College has approximately 600 students in its undergraduate and graduate programs.



This position serves as primary chairside assistant in four-handed treatment of patients in the Division of Restorative/Prosthetic Dentistry's Implant Clinic in the College of Dentistry. Description of duties include:



  • Chairside assisting in prosthodontic procedures such as crown preparations, bridge preparations, full mouth rehabilitation and all removable prosthodontic procedures

  • Chairside assisting in dental implant procedures such as simple surgical placement, restoration of implant crown and bridges, restoration of full arch implant prostheses

  • Fabrication and handling of provisional restorations on teeth and implants

  • Assist in intraoral and extraoral photography

  • Setup and assist in using dental laser

  • Maintaining inventories for dental materials and implant parts

  • sterilizes instruments in accordance with OSHA regulations

  • cleans and maintains dental operatories and labs;

  • performs treatment set up and breakdown

  • Intraoral scanning and/or making alginate impressions, pours casts as needed

  • Obtain digital radiographic images

  • answers phone and provides information to patients and/or internal staff or external customers;

  • minor data entry in electronic health records as needed



Monday- Friday 7:30am to 4:30pm with 1 hour lunch break



This position requires successful completion of a criminal background check and drug and alcohol screening.



A dental assistant needs to have use of both hands, as well as dexterity in the fingers and the ability to manipulate instruments, materials, dental hand pieces, and operate dental equipment. The use of feet is necessary to manipulate the rheostat for hand pieces or other dental equipment. The body must be able to work from a dental stool in order to perform most dental procedures. The ability to sit and stand for a duration of time is also necessary. Other specific requirements include color spectrum differentiation; manual dexterity/motor coordination, hand-eye coordination, physical communications; visual acuity and communication/language development. Individuals in this position may be exposed to the following: bloodborne pathogens; chemical hazards (skin irritants); vibrating equipment; use of sharp instruments; and latex.



Required: High School Diploma or GED. Minimum 1 year experience in dental assisting or sterilization and dispensing. Current CPR/BLS certification and radiographer license required at all times throughout employment and chair side dental assistant experience required.



Desired: Experience and knowledge of a wide variety of dental instruments and procedures, especially prosthetic/restorative including dental implants; experience with electronic health record, intraoral scanning, computer literacy including Microsoft Office and internet/email is desired.
