Job Details:



Tyson Foods is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Director of Cattle Trading to join our dynamic commodity trading and risk management team. This leadership role is responsible for executing complex cattle trading strategies, managing Tyson's cattle hedging programs, and providing strategic insights to optimize performance in the cattle markets. The director of Cattle Trading will leverage advanced market analysis, risk management expertise, and trading acumen to drive results in a fast-paced, high-stakes environment. A deep understanding of agricultural markets, particularly cattle, as well as the ability to manage substantial commodity risk and collaborate with cross-functional teams, is essential.



Key Responsibilities:




  • Market Analysis: Conduct in-depth analysis of the cattle market, including market fundamentals, price trends, and supply/demand dynamics. Utilize both quantitative models and qualitative insights to forecast trends, identify trading opportunities, and assess market risks.



  • Trade Execution: Execute cattle trades with precision and efficiency, responding to real-time market developments, news, and price fluctuations. Ensure that trading decisions align with Tyson's broader risk management strategy.



  • Strategy Development: Develop, implement, and continuously refine sophisticated trading strategies to manage Tyson's cattle commodity risks. Adapt strategies based on performance metrics, market conditions, and evolving business objectives.



  • Risk Management: Oversee risk exposure related to Tyson's cattle portfolio, ensuring that trading decisions adhere to established risk management protocols. Apply risk mitigation techniques to protect the company's cost structure and capital, ensuring alignment with Tyson's overall risk appetite.



  • Hedge Program Management: Lead Tyson's cattle hedging program, managing a portfolio with significant annual physical exposures. Develop and execute hedge strategies, track performance, report results to senior leadership, and ensure full compliance with Tyson's risk policies.



  • Collaboration and Leadership: Work closely with other commodity traders, analysts, and cross-functional teams, including operations, finance, and procurement, to ensure a cohesive and well-informed approach to cattle trading and risk management. Provide mentorship and leadership to junior traders and analysts, fostering a collaborative and high-performance culture.



  • Reporting and Analytics: Prepare and present detailed reports on cattle trading performance, risk management positions, market analysis, and strategic recommendations. Ensure clear and accurate communication of insights to senior management and key stakeholders.



  • Regulatory Compliance:

    Collaborate with Tyson's compliance and mid-office teams to ensure that all cattle trading activities comply with relevant regulations and Tyson's internal policies. Stay abreast of regulatory changes and adjust trading practices as necessary.





Qualifications:




  • Experience: Minimum of 10 years of experience in commodity trading, with a focus on agricultural commodities such as cattle, grains, and livestock. Proven track record of managing large portfolios and executing complex trading strategies in fast-moving markets.



  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Finance, Economics, Agricultural Economics, or a related field. An MBA or relevant advanced degree is a plus.



  • Skills & Expertise:



    • Deep knowledge of cattle markets, including pricing mechanisms, supply chains, and key market drivers.


    • Advanced analytical skills with expertise in quantitative models and market forecasting.


    • Strong risk management skills, with experience managing commodity risk and executing hedging programs.


    • Proven ability to make quick, informed decisions in high-pressure environments.


    • Excellent communication, presentation, and leadership skills.


    • Strong collaborative mindset and experience mentoring junior traders and analysts.





  • Regulatory Knowledge: Familiarity with relevant commodity trading regulations and compliance standards, particularly in the agricultural sector.



  • Technological Proficiency: Advanced proficiency with trading platforms, data analytics tools, and risk management software.
