Princeton University seeks a collaborative individual to join our Research Development office within the Office of the Dean for Research. The Research Development team, provides expertise and resources to help faculty develop competitive grant proposals, facilitate team-based research initiatives, manage limited submission opportunities, and navigate complex application processes for large-scale, interdisciplinary projects.
Our research development services include providing competitive intelligence, research on funding agency priorities, project management support, professional writing of key proposal elements, and expert guidance throughout the entire proposal development process.
To be successful in this role, you must be self-motivated, have a general understanding of the research funding landscape to identify and assess funding opportunities. You should be a skilled communicator, able to engage with faculty proactively about competitive funding.
The ideal candidate for this position will have a background in higher education, government or research focused institution, excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and a keen eye for detail. You should also be highly motivated and able to work effectively in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.
Research Development Team Support
• Manage the Research Funding Gateway and bi-weekly funding announcement, including curating relevant RFPs for the campus community.
• Assist in distributing and managing submissions to internal ODFR funding opportunities.
• Assist with limited submission process, including distribution lists, setting timelines and arranging endorsement letters.
• Draft and review gift agreements, including financial system entries.
• Support proposal development, including drafting sections and copyediting.
• Support RD programming and events, including logistics and communications.
Research and Reporting
• Assist in creation of reports for Office of the Dean for Research, including writing, preparing data and drafting other supporting materials.
• Assist departments in reporting on Foundation gifts and endowments.
• Research funding opportunities and honorifics and identify alignment with Princeton faculty expertise, drawing on various data sources and platforms, including Tableau, Academic Analytics, Pivot, Research with Princeton.
• Perform prospect research for team members.
• Stay abreast of funding trends and brief the team on important developments.
Essential Skills and Qualifications:
• Exceptional research, writing, editing, and proofreading skills with a strong attention to detail.
• Proven ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines.
• Experience with research funding in an academic setting.
• Familiarity with grant compliance, reporting, and university research processes.
• Strong organizational and communication skills and ability to interact effectively with faculty, administrators, and external partners.
• Proficiency in common software applications such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Constant Contact, Salesforce, Outlook, etc
• Computer Use: Ability to work at a computer for 5-6 hours per day, often sitting for extended periods.
Preferred Skills and Qualifications:
• Familiarity with grant compliance, reporting, and university research processes.
• Experience interacting with faculty members and department chairs.
