Job Description:

Reporting directly to the Global Medical Head, Emerging Medicines R&I, the Senior GMAL Immunology Emerging Medicines is an experienced Medical Affairs leader who fulfils a critical strategic business role. This person develops ambitious medical strategies for our early pipeline of products within the immunology therapy area from preclinical to Phase 3, including our immunology cell therapy portfolio and delivers results through seasoned cross-functional leadership.


The Senior GMAL's remit and impact extend globally and across the AstraZeneca enterprise, through membership on the Global Medical Team, the Global Product Team, Disease Area Teams, and in partnership with Medical personnel in key markets and regions. This role needs vision. It is someone who can seize an opportunity, design and leverage high impact evidence activities, understands market dynamics and can work with regions and countries to drive the market shaping activities required to ensure outstanding product launches, partner externally to transform health systems for the benefit of population health, bring innovative solutions across the spectrum of medical results, and demonstrate extraordinary scientific engagement with external authorities and key partners.


Accountabilities





  • Strategy - Design and lead the implementation of product and disease area strategies and practice change initiatives at a global level, partnering to ensure execution at a regional/country level. Develop novel solutions to shape/define a market in preparation for launch.







  • Differentiating Evidence Generation - Design and leverage high impact evidence activities in support of product and disease area strategies; optimise the communications roll-out of our data sets and be an ambassador for our practice-changing evidence







  • Be the Voice of Medical - Craft and convey a compelling narrative across product and disease area, in line with our Medical ambition







  • External Presence - Engage and cultivate relationships with leading global thought leaders, societies, patient organisations and health systems, to be able to partner effectively to optimize patient care. Initiates and leads from AZ perspective new partnerships across the health care ecosystem.




Essential Skills/Experience:




  • BSc or Masters with 10+ years of experience in the pharmaceutical industry (Medical, Marketing, R&D, Market access roles), or experience working within a relevant health system setting (clinical, pharmacy, pathway design etc.). This should include experience of working at a global and/or regional level.


  • Deep medical, clinical or scientific expertise in immunology, preferably rheumatology.


  • Deep healthcare system pathways/market-shaping experience and understanding (e.g. led transformation programs in a healthcare system, driven partnerships from pharma perspective).


  • Proven track record to build internal and external networks and to collaborate across geographies and cultures.


  • Substantial evidence generation/data expertise, e.g. clinical trial experience (conducted Ph2, Ph3 or Ph4 studies), and/or substantial RWE experience (world-class registry, experience with RWE for label enhancement, practice changing RWD usage).


  • Experienced Business leader (e.g. led a TA/franchise in a market, driven brand performance, led large teams) able to deliver results in a complex environment.




Desirable Skills/Experience:




  • Doctoral level degree: MD, PhD, or PharmD.


  • Relevant experience beyond Medical affairs (e.g. in a marketing/R&D/Market Access role).


  • Experience working in cell/gene therapy.


  • Evidence of working in a matrix environment, being able to influence without authority.


  • Strong working relationships with global thought leaders, including key experts and opinion leaders, professional societies and other healthcare industries/organizations.


  • Experience developing and launching innovative new products in key geographies (e.g US, China) that require extensive internal and external transformation.

The annual base pay (or hourly rate of compensation) for this position ranges from $215,838.40, to $ 323,757.60 , either as annual base pay or as the hourly rate (annual base pay divided by 2080 hours)]. Hourly and salaried non-exempt employees will also be paid overtime pay when working qualifying overtime hours. Base pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. In addition, our positions offer a short-term incentive bonus opportunity; eligibility to participate in our equity-based long-term incentive program (salaried roles), to receive a retirement contribution (hourly roles), and commission payment eligibility (sales roles). Benefits offered included a qualified retirement program [401(k) plan]; paid vacation and holidays; paid leaves; and, health benefits including medical, prescription drug, dental, and vision coverage in accordance with the terms and conditions of the applicable plans. Additional details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment.
