Job Description:

Position Summary:

Working alongside senior management, the position functions as the chief technical authority over new build product lines and FAA Repair Station activities. It is responsible for technical excellence on production support, customer communication, and component maintenance, testing, and repair. It requires knowledge of engineering principles, theories and industry practices to provide support for 14 CFR Part 145 component repair solutions, PMA parts, and 14 CFR Parts 23, 25, 27, 29, and 33 design, certification, and production. In addition to the technical aspects the position will also provide leadership and mentoring to other engineers and direct, coordinate, and exercises functional authority for planning, organization, control, integration, and completion of engineering projects within area of assigned responsibility. All duties will be performed in a fast-paced and dynamic environment. Principal Engineer shall have added authority to coordinate and delegate activities of subordinate engineers as necessary by performing the following duties personally.

Essential Duties & Responsbilities:


  • Is the final engineering technical authority for assigned discipline, product lines, or programs.
  • Reviews, provides guidance on, and approves test plans, tooling and part designs, substantiation reports, and capability evaluations. Ensures technical feasibility, production readiness, and compliance with engineering principles, company procedures, industry standards, customer contract requirements, and regulations.
  • Provides guidance on interpretation of technical data
  • Works closely with engineering management and program management to enable the success of programs, projects, and initiatives
  • Coordinates and/or oversees personnel for an assigned project, product line, or discipline (engineers, internal colleagues, customers, vendors) to specific phases or aspects of project such as technical studies, product design, preparation of specifications technical plans and manufacturing instructions, product testing along with any supporting documentation.
  • Drives continuous improvement of engineering processes, tools, and capabilities, as well as manufacturing and test procedures
  • Shares knowledge and provides mentoring to other engineers
  • Leads failure investigations, resolves highly complex technical problems, and implements corrective actions
  • Functions as a technical interface to external customers, suppliers, and regulatory representatives.
  • Provides reports and presentations on the status of project milestones to customer, project team, and management.
  • Coordinates FAA-PMA activities concerned with technical developments, scheduling, and resolving engineering design and test problems.
  • Uses equipment and materials properly.
  • Reports potentially unsafe conditions.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Education:

  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering. Mechanical Engineering degree preferred.
  • Licensed Professional Engineer (PE) preferred.
Experience:


  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in engineering.
  • Requires at least 3 years in a regulated industry, such as aerospace and defense, with knowledge of FAA certification preferred.
  • Experience with design and/or testing one or more of the following aircraft systems groups: Fuel, Anti Ice, Climate Control, Pneumatic, and Flight Control Actuation.
  • Blackbelt DFSS experience preferred.
  • Must have a strong blend of technical, project, and positive customer relationship building experience.
  • Experience writing and reviewing test plans and reports.
Qualifications:

  • Understanding of engineering principles applied to fuel control, hydraulics, pneumatics, heat transfer of various combinations of air and liquid, electromechanical components (such as electric motors, position sensors, servos and actuators), and mechanical assemblies (such as gearboxes, and tie rods)
  • Demonstrated ability to solve a wide array of technical problems, work well under pressure, and meet simultaneous deadlines.
  • Advanced level of proficiency in engineering design principles, CAD software, GD&T
  • Proven team player who has excellent communication, presentation, organizational skills, and interpersonal skills with an ability to relate to all levels of an organization
  • Ability to be self-directed and effectively manage subordinate engineers
  • Looking for a hands-on individual with the ability to see the big picture.
  • Demonstrated ability to set goals and objectives to meet business unit expectations.
  • The right person will be ambitious and flexible who wants to learn and grow professionally.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
  • Prefer knowledge and use of Six Sigma tools
  • Proficient in MS Office (Word, Excel and PowerPoint).

Typical Working Conditions:


  • Work will be conducted mostly indoors whether in an office type environment or in a "shop" type environment.
  • Exposure to heat or cold will mostly be limited to when walking from one building to another or if bay doors have been opened to allow for shipping and receiving activities. The use of PPE such as safety glasses and safety toed shoes are required in designated working areas.
