Provides technical support to UMSJMC Safety & fire Protection program in the areas of safety, fire protection, environmental management, and hazardous material handling and disposal (i.e. air monitoring, spill clean-up, record keeping).
Participates in safety surveys and risk assessment activities to identify, evaluate, mitigate, and control potentially hazardous factors and risks associated with UMSJMC operations and the physical plant.
Identifies and assesses environmental effects that may be caused by operations to protect and enhance the quality of the environment; conserving natural resources; reducing pollutants, resource consumption, waste volume and toxicity.
Investigates and assists in resolving patient, visitor or staff safety inquiries or complaints related to the Environment of Care.
Participates in providing general and job-site specific training, education programs, and drills in occupational safety and fire protection in compliance with EOC Management Plans, institutional objectives, and regulatory requirements.
Working Conditions
Weekend, shift work, holiday, on-call, and overtime may be required. Must maintain pager/cell phone access to the medical center.
As an emergency responder, work assignments may be stressful and unpredictable.
Work is primarily performed in a normal, office environment but may require work outside or in austere or harsh conditions

Qualifications
Associates/2 year Degree in Industrial Hygiene, Safety Engineering or a related engineering field required.
Bachelor's Degree in Industrial Hygiene, Safety Engineering, Environmental Health, or a related engineering field preferred.
Two (2) years of experience as an industrial hygienist, safety inspector, environmental engineer, or occupational safety specialist, or similar responsibilities in a hospital, health care or bio medical research environment required.
