Introduction to team

The Traveler Business Team has a mission to deliver the most convenient, rewarding, and memorable ways for people to travel and explore the world. This division has responsibility to build and drive the growth of our global consumer business across our Expedia, Hotels.com, Vrbo, and Portfolio brands, and across all our lines of businesses including Hotels, Vacation Rentals, Air, Car, Packages, and Insurtech.

As the Senior Director of Strategy & Planning within our newly formed Traveler Business division, you will play a critical role in shaping the strategic direction for Expedia.com and Portfolio Brands (known as BEX). You will play an integral role working with the BEX General Manager to develop the strategic direction for the brand. You will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to set revenue targets and ensure alignment with our global business goals and objectives. The ideal candidate will be an analytically driven strategic leader with strong problem-solving skills, a high degree of business acumen, B2C and B2B leadership experience, as well as the ability to work with and influence a variety of individuals, internally and externally, at all levels.

In this role, you will:

  • Strategy Development : Identify and play a key role in operationalizing key medium- and long-term strategic initiatives to improve the competitive positioning for Brand Expedia and Portfolio brands
  • Evaluate strategic opportunities and develop perspective on implications and actions for the traveler

    • Monitor the traveler ecosystem to identify market trends
    • Identify business / value driver opportunities that differentiate the business and compliment the greater Expedia ecosystem
    • Build frameworks to assess strategic options and work with critical stakeholders to model and develop business cases
    • Identify the most important initiatives to drive sustainable commercial performance
    • Champion strategic initiatives and build narratives for internal communication to senior stakeholders and cross functional peers to build buy -in
  • Financial Planning : Will partner with finance on annual and longer-term financial planning processes, including budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration : Work closely with Business Unit Leadership, Global Markets Leadership, Marketing, Supply, Operations, and Finance teams to ensure alignment
  • Data-Driven Decision Making : Structure analyses and leverage data analytics to drive informed business decisions
  • Performance Metrics : Regularly evaluate performance against targets against established financial KPIs

Experience and qualifications

  • Minimum of 14 years of progressive experience in strategy, revenue management, and/or financial planning within the travel and/or tech industry
  • Strategic mindset: Ability to think long-term, anticipate market trends, and adapt to changing business landscapes
  • Strong quantitative skills with a data-driven approach to problem solving
  • Effective Communication skills: able to effectively and succinctly communicate with multiple stakeholders across all levels. Compelling presentations that inspire and win hearts and minds are important
  • Proven experience identifying and evaluating key market trends, opportunities, and risks
  • In depth business case development leveraging analysis in an ambiguous and fast paced environment
  • Global exposure : Experience working across diverse markets and understanding regional nuances
  • Financial acumen : Strong understanding of financial metrics, forecasting, and budgeting
  • Development and execution of strategies at top tier consulting firm is strongly preferred

The total cash range for this position in Austin is $261,500 to $366,000. Employees in this role have the potential to increase their pay up to $418,500, which is the top of the range, based on ongoing, demonstrated, and sustained performance in the role.

The total cash range for this position in Chicago is $253,000 to $354,500. Employees in this role have the potential to increase their pay up to $405,000, which is the top of the range, based on ongoing, demonstrated, and sustained performance in the role.

The total cash range for this position in New York City is $292,500 to $409,500. Employees in this role have the potential to increase their pay up to $468,000, which is the top of the range, based on ongoing, demonstrated, and sustained performance in the role.

The total cash range for this position in Seattle is $261,500.00 to $366,000.00. Employees in this role have the potential to increase their pay up to $418,500.00, which is the top of the range, based on ongoing, demonstrated, and sustained performance in the role.

Starting pay for this role will vary based on multiple factors, including location, available budget, and an individual's knowledge, skills, and experience. Pay ranges may be modified in the future.
