Job Description:

The Intern will support one or more departments under the supervision of a member of AuSMs leadership team. Well-qualified candidates will be currently enrolled in a local higher education institution and be in good standing.AuSM is seeking interns in the following departments:Programs and ServicesAdvocacyCounselingEducationSummer CampsGeneral ProgrammingAdvancementEventsFundraising and DevelopmentMarketing and CommunicationsNonprofit OperationsHuman ResourcesFinanceInformation TechnologyRetailRequired Duties:Intern duties should primarily derive from the learning objectives of the internship program, as directed by the students educational institution, but will also include tasks that support the work of the organization. In addition to the project(s) supporting the agreed-upon learning objectives, the intern will assist with the following:Community Interaction: This may include verbal and written communication with internal and external stakeholders.Support Groups: AuSM provides free and low-cost support groups for members of the community. Interns will facilitate support group gatherings, which typically take place online.Coffee Club and Social Events: AuSM is here to serve the autism community, so all interns should get out into the community and meet our stakeholders.Departmental Programming: Each department is responsible for specific programming that interns should support. This might include facilitating training, hosting events, designing operating procedures, etc.Administrative Duties: Interns can support AuSM staff with administrative tasks and other duties as assigned. Reading and Reflection: Interns should receive coaching from their supervisor on issues related to autism and disability justice regardless of the scope of their service. One effective way to build in learning and reflection is to recommend articles, books, and book excerpts to the intern that support their learning objectives and enrich their understanding of autism and disability justice issues. Interns should then reflect on the reading during meetings with their supervisor.Required SkillsAbility to multitask in a changing work environment, while managing competing demands and unexpected.Excellent verbal and written communication skills.Ability to work independently and in a team to meet deadlines.Strong organizational and time management skills.Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint.Preferred SkillsExperience working in the nonprofit sector.Experience working with the Neurodiverse community.Position Hours and LocationSt. Paul, MNPart-timeSemi-flexible in-office hours with weekly evening commitments and occasional weekends.Hybrid schedule with in-person hours and remote work options.CompensationThis is an unpaid internship. At AuSM, unpaid internships are offered in partnership with higher education institutions and are part of a degree-seeking program. Similar volunteer opportunities may also be available.
