Job Description:

A Senior Buyer position in the Carson City, NV area is available with Storm Search. This is a Direct Hire job opportunity offering a competitive salary, amazing benefits package, and growth potential! Relocation assistance within the United States is also available.

The Senior Buyer is responsible for managing and executing the procurement of materials, services, and equipment to meet manufacturing requirements. This role involves working with established suppliers and leading strategic sourcing initiatives to identify and qualify new suppliers. The Senior Buyer will work cross-functionally to ensure accurate, timely, and quality delivery of all materials and take a lead role in purchasing projects and strategic initiatives for improved results.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Ensure accurate and timely procurement of quality raw materials, meeting production schedules and manufacturing requirements.
  • Manage non-inventory and outside processing requisitions for goods and services.
  • Maintain ERP system data accuracy to support efficient operations.
  • Work with other departments to resolve issues impacting timely material delivery.
  • Provide guidance and mentorship to junior members of the purchasing team.
  • Lead sourcing efforts to identify and qualify new suppliers, improving quality, delivery, and cost-effectiveness.
  • Eliminate single-source suppliers to strengthen negotiation leverage and sourcing capability.
  • Collaborate with quality, engineering, finance, and manufacturing teams to identify and implement cost-saving opportunities.
  • Drive initiatives to enhance key supplier relationships, leading to better communication, quality, and cost reductions.
  • Review supplier proposals for compliance with specifications, pricing, quality standards, and delivery timelines.
  • Stay informed on market trends and technology developments, communicating new products and services to internal stakeholders.
  • Update and distribute monthly supplier performance scorecards.
  • Ensure vendor master data reflects current lead times, pricing, and minimum order quantities.
  • Monitor supplier compliance with Freight Routing Guides to control inbound freight costs.
  • Maintain a clean and hazard-free work environment and observe all safety protocols.

Qualifications:
  • Thorough understanding of purchasing policies and warehouse/inventory control procedures.
  • Excellent negotiation skills to secure favorable vendor terms, pricing, and delivery schedules.
  • Ability to understand contract terms and identify any unfavorable clauses.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite; ERP system experience required, with Epicor preferred.
  • Skilled in math, including calculating percentages, discounting, payback periods, and ROI analysis.
  • Excellent attention to detail, problem-solving abilities, and ability to work effectively in a team setting.
  • Ability to read and write in English.

Education and Experience:
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; Bachelor's degree preferred.
  • Completion of APICS or ISM courses, with a Supply Chain Certification preferred.
  • Seven or more years in purchasing within a manufacturing environment, with experience in metals, plastics, adhesives, and raw materials. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
