Work Schedule: This is a hybrid position with regular work performed at the VIVA HEALTH corporate headquarters in downtown Birmingham and some work-from-home opportunities.
Job Description
The Senior Health Care Data Analyst is responsible for supporting and developing VIVA HEALTH'S processes and initiatives through data analytics, process improvement, and decision support. This includes monitoring and reporting on VIVA HEALTH quality, utilization, and other performance indicators, identifying opportunities for improvement, conducting qualitative analysis in support of strategic decision making, and collaborating with functional areas to monitor the impact various initiatives have on department Key Performance Indicator (KPIs). This role emphasizes highly efficient use of data organization and manipulation techniques to produce reporting and provide analytical reasoning on key department indicators relative to standardized benchmarks or norms and company performance goals.
This Senior Data Analyst monitors outcomes of key indicators including health care quality measures, population health outcomes, member experience and surveys, as well as utilization, cost, and other operational metrics. The position is responsible for the development, maintenance and presentation of data-driven KPI dashboards and other related information and materials to both internal and external audiences.
Key Responsibilities
Conduct data collection, manipulation, analysis, and/or research in support of various performance improvement initiatives.
Conduct population health data analysis, monitor KPI trends and provide analysis relative to benchmarks, and offer other related analytical support to data-driven strategic initiatives.
Assist with in-depth analytical reasoning, performance reporting, and/or quality assurance testing for the assigned department. This includes database query and data retrieval from vendor applications and internal software solutions (e.g. Microsoft SQL Server).
Prepare and tailor reports with appropriate visual elements and formatted styling to best fit the end-user, including trend analysis, benchmark comparison, graphs or graphical elements, and tables.
Conduct impact, gap, or ROI analysis for new and existing department processes, initiatives, and/or system applications.
Serve as subject matter expert of organization of data tables and sources used by the department for assigned data analytic projects; collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to facilitate integration data into other Health Plan data tables and sources.
REQUIRED:
Bachelor's degree in Business, Public Health, Health Care Administration, MIS, HIS, Statistics, or related field
Minimum of 3 years' experience with data analysis techniques and interpretation
Minimum of 1 year experience working with health care data
Advanced level of proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including pivot tables, conditional formatting techniques, graphs, and advanced formulas, including Statistical, Lookup, Reference, and Logical Functions
High level of technical proficiency and understanding of commonly used Windows OS business-support applications including Microsoft Outlook, Word, and PowerPoint, Adobe Pro, etc.
High level of proficiency and experience in appropriate visualization techniques for the graphical presentation of data and results in a group setting
Intermediate to Advanced level of proficiency in Tableau, Microsoft SQL Server, SAS, Crystal, or similar query or data manipulation tools
Intermediate to Advanced level of proficiency in SQL programming language
Experience collecting and analyzing complex data and providing recommendations using independent judgement
Knowledge of data organization principles and techniques (ex: data tables, data storage, and retrieval)
Demonstrated ability to apply logical deductive reasoning to research or analytic results toward application to business operations
Strong analytical skills to diagnose and support resolution of department strategic concerns and issues
Ability to evaluate existing projects or processes and offer suggestions to improve efficiency
Ability to exercise sound independent judgement and discretion in decisions that affect business operations
Self-directed; demonstrated ability to initiate, implement, and complete projects and assignments in a timely manner
Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills, including the ability to work on and track multiple assignments on various timelines with minimal supervision
PREFERRED:
Master's degree in related field
Minimum of 1 year experience working with a Health Insurance Plan or in a clinical setting
Six Sigma Green Belt or greater
Tableau certification
Intermediate or higher level of proficiency in Tableau software or similar analysis/visualization tool
High level of familiarity with ICD10 procedure and diagnosis codes
Demonstrated experience developing or initiating new operational projects and programs
Knowledge of Medicare Advantage and MAPD Plans, Health Maintenance Organizations, or other Health Insurance operations
Ability to interpret written health care quality measure specifications and apply them to business operations
