Job Title: Mechanical Project Engineer

Job Overview:

We are seeking a Principal Mechanical & Structural Engineer to lead the design and engineering efforts for the modification and modernization of electric overhead cranes across the Americas region. This position will be responsible for mechanical and structural design activities, working with both legacy equipment and modern systems to ensure the successful completion of crane upgrades.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Lead mechanical and structural design activities for the modification and modernization of electric overhead cranes, specifically for the Legacy EOT and Portal Cranes product lines.
  • Interpret detailed order documentation, including customer specifications, to determine the scope of work and develop a project plan.
  • Conduct in-depth research in company archives to locate historical records of legacy equipment, ensuring accurate interpretations of mechanical and structural designs.
  • Perform engineering tasks following established procedures, including creating equipment layouts and completing all necessary mechanical and structural calculations to verify designs.
  • Develop detailed designs, including sub-assembly, assembly, and installation drawings, to meet project requirements.
  • Write clear and comprehensive work instructions to support field installation of crane equipment.
  • Oversee project planning, scheduling, and design execution, ensuring adherence to budget and timelines from initial inquiry through to equipment start-up.

Qualifications:
  • Education: Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering, Structural Engineering, or a related field.
  • Experience: At least 5 years of experience with electric overhead cranes or similar industrial equipment. Previous experience in the overhead material handling industry is preferred.
  • A Professional Engineer (PE) license or the ability to obtain licensure is a plus.
  • Strong knowledge of machine design and structural engineering practices.
  • Familiarity with industry standards such as CMAA and ASME B30, with knowledge of welding and machining processes required.
  • Proficiency in SAP, AutoCAD, Solidworks, and Microsoft Office is essential.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, to interact effectively with frontline sales teams, customers, application engineers, and project management.

Other Requirements:
  • Ability to work at heights up to 100 feet for site visits, equipment commissioning, and inspections.
  • Travel requirement: approximately 5% for customer meetings, commissioning, and inspections at manufacturing locations, including domestic and international travel.
