Our client is seeking an Automation Engineering Manager to join their team in the energy, mining, industrial power markets, and integrated bio-energy solutions. The ideal candidate must prioritize safety, perform quality work, demonstrate attention to detail, and exhibit superior customer focus. This individual should be able to work both independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Oversee the development, programming, and implementation of automated systems within the oil and gas industry.
Design, build, test, and implement automated systems.
Collaborate closely with engineers and other technical professionals.
Develop and maintain detailed schedules for automation activities.
Coordinate project schedules and plans with clients, vendors, and internal teams.
Provide status updates to internal leadership and client teams.
Manage resources responsible for configuring and testing software components.
Develop and maintain automation software standards.
Gather business requirements, perform feasibility studies, and prototype solutions.
Assist in creating automation prototypes.
Lead all efforts in the Traditional Energy Systems group, including PLC programming, HMI programming, line control, electrical device layout, startup services, data collection, and process control.
Assign work, allocate project hours, and manage resources, project schedules, and component specifications.
Determine the need for subcontracted labor or additional staff and handle contracting or hiring as needed.
Provide cost estimates, component estimates, and construction estimates to the Business Development/Marketing Department for work proposals.
Participate as part of the Senior Management Committee to contribute to corporate policy formation, personnel decisions, and business development.
Oversee project costs, person-hours, and technical content for Traditional Energy Systems engineering.
Offer training opportunities for subordinates to ensure continuous education and compliance with electrical codes/regulations.
Conduct annual performance reviews for subordinates.
Adhere to and enforce company safety and operational standards.
Travel domestically and internationally, ranging from 5-20% annually.
Represent the organization professionally as a liaison with customers, ensuring contract compliance and resolving issues efficiently.
Interview, select, and train new employees to meet organizational standards.
Address employee issues and company policy violations with Human Resources support, providing appropriate discipline and feedback.
Respond promptly to troubleshoot and resolve issues, minimizing delays.
Promote a positive working environment to achieve organizational goals.
Manage time effectively and handle change with adaptability.
Interact professionally with coworkers, clients, vendors, and other business contacts.
Other Duties and Responsibilities:
Create, modify, and debug PLC, HMI, and data management software code.
Serve as a resource for installation and start-up assignments.
Perform functional checkout procedures on assembled projects.
Assist Electrical/Systems Engineers with design and programming as needed.
Provide onsite assistance with functional checkout and troubleshooting.
Promote a positive work environment to support organizational goals.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Skills, Knowledge, Abilities, Education, and Experience:
Education: Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or a related field.
Experience: Seven (7) to ten (10) years in electrical design, engineering, or a related field.
Strong understanding of electrical design principles.
Proficiency in PLCs, HMIs, and SCADA systems (e.g., Rockwell Control Logix, Fisher ROC, ABB Total Flow, Omni Flow Computers).
Field experience with control/automation system installation and start-up.
Basic knowledge of AutoCAD (preferred).
Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
Proficiency in Microsoft Windows-based programs.
Valid driver's license with the ability to operate a motor vehicle safely.
