Application Systems Engineer

*12-month contract with potential to convert*

Hybrid: 2x a week onsite in Charlotte, NC

Optomi, in partnership with our premier client in the Insurance industry, is seeking an Application Systems Engineer to join their team for a hybrid role. This Application Systems Engineer will have experience deploying software applications, a deep understanding of software development lifecycles (SDLC), and the ability to recommend and implement improvements. This role is pivotal in delivering and supporting software systems efficiently and reliably.

The ideal candidate brings a blend of application engineering/support, operational understanding, and experience collaborating with diverse technical teams and vendors.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Deploy software systems while making strategic recommendations for process and system improvements.
  • Collaborate with internal teams, including developers, network engineers, DBAs, and external vendors, to deliver and maintain highly configurable software solutions.
  • Manage and support middleware technologies, including JBOSS and Microsoft IIS, ensuring stability and performance.
  • Implement and maintain systems and services in both on-premises and cloud environments, with a strong understanding of Windows and Linux operating systems.
  • Leverage tools such as Azure DevOps to support the delivery of software and automate pipelines for increased efficiency.
  • Provide guidance on middleware and infrastructure components.
  • Work closely with vendors on software upgrades, updates, and configurations for products such as Oracle DocuMaker, Pega, and Verifor Imaging.
  • Drive the adoption of automated tooling and pipelines to enhance software delivery and operational efficiency.

Qualifications:
  • 5-10 years of experience in application, systems engineering or operational roles, with a focus on software delivery and operational support.
  • Knowledge of middleware technologies (e.g., JBOSS, IIS) and SQL Server.
  • Familiarity with infrastructure components such as networks, firewalls, and load balancers.
  • Hands-on experience with Azure DevOps and software pipeline automation.
  • Experience supporting highly configurable, vendor-supplied software in collaboration with internal teams and external partners.
  • A solid understanding of Windows and Linux operating systems.
  • Strong problem-solving skills, with the ability to ask the right questions, identify gaps, and achieve results through collaboration.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a passion for continuous learning and improvement.

Preferred Skills:
  • Experience with software development methodologies and SDLC best practices.
  • Knowledge of cloud platforms such as Azure and hybrid cloud environments.
  • Familiarity with emerging tools and technologies in automation and software delivery.
