Schunk Xycarb Technology (SXT), Inc. in Georgetown, Texas is growing and seeking a Manufacturing Engineer for our U.S. Operations in Georgetown, Texas facility.

Schunk Xycarb Technology is the one-stop leading global supplier of Silicon Carbide coated Graphite, Quartz-ware, Ceramic and Silicon consumable products, and related technology services for the Microelectronics industry. Schunk Xycarb Technology produces high-tech process-chamber equipment parts for wafer production and processing, including dedicated customer engineering support. Within Operations, the Engineering department is responsible for:
  • The availability of safe process/measurement equipment and installations for the mechanical (MBA) and Warm Quartz (WKA) production departments
  • Quartz process technology development - creating, documenting, refining, improving, and extending the skills, technologies, processes, and quality related to quartz and ceramic part fabrication
  • Monitoring of these equipment and installations
  • Supporting complex process issues
  • Develop innovative technologies, and continuously improvement of existing technology to improve the efficiency and reliability of manufacturing processes

The department consists of process and equipment engineers, who support operations and drive improvement projects. For improvement projects, there is close cooperation with other departments (matrix organization). Xycarb has been growing rapidly, so specialization within the Engineering department is needed. To support this expansion, we are looking for a Manufacturing Engineer.

About your role

The Manufacturing Engineer is responsible for developing, preparing, maintaining, and improving products and production processes to standardize the processes and improve production efficiency & productivity. The primary focus will be on each new, modified, and/or recurring product in all aspects of the manufacturing process, work instructions, SAP master data setup and maintenance, purchase of engineering parts, raw materials release, quality assistance to solve customer complaints, and production support.

This is a highly visible position that reports directly to the Engineering Manager.

As the Manufacturing Engineer, you will be responsible for:

Technical support
  • Advise sales on: technical aspects of product design, functionality, specifications and manufacturability.
  • Advise purchasing on technical aspects of purchase components and parts to be subcontracted.
  • Support product owners in analyzing recurring problems and advise on how to solve the problems.
  • Make analyses, find deviations, explain causes, and advise on preventive measures.
  • Technical drawings: Proficient in GD&T standards, create models of product and fixturing, create part dimensional drawings.

Projects
  • Supervise cross-functional teams or manage projects related to the development, and improvement of new and or modified products and processes.

Introduction of New Products APQP/ PPAP
  • Plan all essential activities to get work-ready status and monitor progress.
  • Collect, analyze, and assess all data, work instructions, drawings, production documentation, material properties, operations, and processes.
  • Administer data in SAP.
  • Start and coordinate prototype and pilot orders up to the decision point.
  • Administration and management of product documentation
  • Responsible for implementing revisions and following change control management processes
  • Design, draw, and oversee manufacturing of fixtures for new products

Process and Cost Control
  • Analyze the cost of orders and find cost drivers to prevent avoidable costs.
  • Organize action to improve (production) processes.
  • Decide on repairing/reworking change of replace of products taking cost and customer interest into account.
  • Decide if and how production standards are to be adjusted.
  • Initiate and or approve alternative and or modified material or production methods

Improvements and support
  • In general activities are driven to achieve a situation of continuous improvement.
  • Advise manufacturing support in case of machine problems.
  • Advise production on developments in production technology.
  • Initiate action in case of quality problems, rejects, etc.
  • Advise and optimize drawings, fixtures

Communication
  • Consult with quality engineering on aspects of product properties, specifications, and manufacturability.
  • Sales to discuss and advise on product properties, specifications, manufacturability, and degree of complexity.
  • Engineering to give support in developing, and selecting tools, fixtures, products, and processes.
  • Production to discuss technical issues such as processes, work instructions, and functionality of the product.
  • Purchasing to give technical information on purchase products and parts to be subcontracted.
  • Operations manager to discuss results on orders and find ways to improve results.
  • Production support to advise on processes and methods.

What will you bring?

The right candidate for this position will have:

Education/ Experience:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Manufacturing, Production, Industrial or Mechanical Engineering
  • 3+ years of appropriate experience in a manufacturing environment preferably semi-conductor

Knowledge and skills
  • Corporate policies and guidelines, administrative systems, and procedures related to manufacturing engineering.
  • Relevant international standards.
  • Production equipment, fixtures, tooling, measuring tools, production methods.
  • Products, engineering principles, customs within the industry, semiconductor, solar, and LED.
  • Testing requirements and customer requirements.
  • Must be familiar with ASME Y14.5 2018 GD&T standards.
  • 3D CAD software: SolidWorks, AutoCAD, Autodesk Inventor, etc.
  • FMEA's, Six Sigma, APQP, PPAP, Lean Manufacturing concepts, in process control systems, SPC, reversed engineering.
  • Management of improvement projects and projects related to APQP efforts.

Must pass pre-employment testing.
