About the Role - As the Head of Fermentation, you will lead all aspects of the fermentation process, from lab-scale research to commercial-scale manufacturing. This role requires a technical leader who thrives in scaling innovative bioprocesses, developing cutting-edge fermentation techniques, and collaborating with multidisciplinary teams. You will be instrumental in designing experiments, managing scale-up activities, and overseeing the commissioning of fermentation reactors at varying scales.
Responsibilities
Lead and manage all fermentation team activities, including a team of 4 direct reports.
Drive the development and scale-up of fermentation processes, ensuring a seamless transition from lab to commercial scale.
Oversee the commissioning of small-scale reactors and troubleshoot issues during fermentation runs.
Design and execute experiments, analyze data, and optimize processes to enhance efficiency and scalability.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams, external partners, and suppliers to ensure successful technology transfer and process implementation.
Develop standard operating procedures (SOPs) and contribute to intellectual property through patent filings.
Communicate results effectively to both technical and non-technical stakeholders, driving strategic decisions.
Qualifications
5+ years of hands-on industrial fermentation experience, with a strong focus on scaling from lab to commercial bioreactors.
Advanced degree (PhD or MSc) in Chemical Engineering, Biotechnology, Biochemistry, Biology, or a related field.
Proven expertise in setting up, running, and troubleshooting fermentations at lab scale.
Experience commissioning small-scale reactors and managing large-scale manufacturing processes.
Strong data interpretation skills with a solid understanding of statistical analysis.
Effective communicator, able to translate complex scientific data into actionable insights for a diverse audience.
Collaborative mindset with a "get-it-done" attitude and the ability to work in high-paced environments.
