The Role
Our partner Boulder Associates is seeking an ambitious, talented, full-time Medical Planner to be a part of a dynamic team and the opportunity to make a difference in peoples' lives through beautiful healthcare design. Boulder Associates is a leader in design providing sustainable architecture and interior design services from thriving offices in San Francisco, Boulder, Charlotte, Dallas, Irvine, Los Angeles, Phoenix, Sacramento, and Seattle. They are seeking a talented and passionate architect to join our San Francisco team. This person will work in close collaboration with architects, interior designers, contractors, and clients to design and document a variety of healthcare project types in all phases from programming through construction administration. Key Duties, Responsibilities and Skills:
Senior Medical Planner Healthcare Facilities Design: Lead medical planning efforts with the project team under the direction of a Senior Medical Planner and Director of Programming & Planning. Possess ability and expertise to program and plan healthcare facilities and collaborates with user groups, departments, and hospital administration. Specialize in medical facility planning, programming, medical equipment planning, process mapping and report writing. Conducts research and analyses of space utilization, determines space requirements, and creates solutions to meet evolving needs. Active interest in integrating data analytics into medical planning. Works closely with project managers, architects, interior designers, contractors, and consultants to implement design concepts. Responsible for the clinical planning of the full range of care services from preventive, outpatient, acute or post-acute healthcare facilities, through various stages of design, following code requirements, best practices and applying evidence-based design. Keeps current on new methodologies related to healthcare design, planning, sustainability, Lean concepts, and evidence-based design principles. Familiarity with the latest healthcare industry trends and innovations.
Planning: Facilitate client user group meetings and strategic planning sessions. Manage, develop, and facilitate data collection through interviews, focus groups, end-user surveys, observation, and post occupancy evaluations. Medical Planner Develop and analyze client's building program working closely with stakeholders to reach consensus on concepts to address operations and space needs. Assists the client in determining goals and objectives of the healthcare facility through a clear programming process. Creates sketches, diagrams, etc. to demonstrate design intent and communicate to the client. Develops building, department, and/or room layouts.
Collaboration: Communicate medical planning and strategic solutions. Demonstrate ethos of collaboration and mentorship. Participates and collaborates in design reviews, charettes and pin-ups. Utilizes expertise and shares knowledge with colleagues and mentors junior staff members on healthcare planning concepts. Be responsible for facilitating QA/QC oversight of strategic, facility master planning and medical planning aspects of project design. Foster a cohesive, effective, and efficient team environment. Work with various disciplines throughout all phases to ensure all concepts / solutions accommodate project needs and the owner's program. Mentor and coach the next generation of designers, planners and thought leaders, as well as receive mentoring and coaching form out established team of designers and thought leaders.
Business Development: Contributes to development of marketing proposals and participation in interviews. Participation in business development activities as requested. Role will report to Director of Programming & Planning. Office and Project reporting to Office Director and Principal Executive. Contribute to thought leadership by sharing knowledge and innovation stories across professional networks.
Required Experience: Medical Planner California Licensed Architect preferred with 8+ years of professional experience. HCAI/OSHPD experience Working knowledge of Codes and Regulations including but not limited, to International Building Code, California Building Standards Code, Facilities Guidelines Institute and National Fire Protection Association. Portfolio of work that demonstrates medical planning practice. Demonstrate an extensive understanding of health design complexity and be knowledgeable of health facility planning and design guidelines and codes. Strong written, verbal, graphic communication skills Evidence of strong working relationship with clients High Revit and Bluebeam proficiency preferred. ACHA and EDAC Accreditation preferred.
