The NPI Engineer oversees the seamless introduction of new products into manufacturing, ensuring they meet design, quality, cost, and schedule requirements. This role bridges product design, development, and production, with a specific focus on obtaining necessary certifications such as UL, ETL, and Title 24 JA8.
Key Responsibilities
1.Product Development Support:
Collaborate with design and R&D teams during the product design phase to ensure manufacturability and compliance with relevant standards.
Provide input on design for manufacturing (DFM) and design for assembly (DFA).
2.Certification Management:
Coordinate the application processes for UL (Underwriters Laboratories), ETL (Electrical Testing Laboratories), and Title 24 JA8 certifications.
Ensure products comply with safety and energy efficiency standards, including the California Energy Commission's Title 24 JA8 requirements for high-efficacy light sources.
3.Project Management:
Coordinate cross-functional teams (engineering, quality, production, and supply chain) to ensure project timelines are met.
Track project milestones and resolve bottlenecks.
4.Process Development:
Develop and document manufacturing processes for new products.
Work with production teams to establish process controls and optimize workflow.
5.Prototyping and Validation:
Oversee the prototyping process and evaluate designs for production feasibility.
Perform risk assessments and support Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA).
6.Supplier Collaboration:
Work with suppliers to source and validate components and materials.
Ensure supplier processes align with company quality standards and timelines.
7.Quality Assurance:
Partner with quality engineering to establish and validate inspection criteria.
Lead root cause analysis and corrective actions for production issues.
8.Documentation:
Create and maintain detailed documentation, including engineering change orders (ECOs), process instructions, and technical reports.
9.Cost and Efficiency Optimization:
Identify cost-saving opportunities in manufacturing and assembly.
Implement Lean or Six Sigma practices to improve production efficiency.
Qualifications
Education:
Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Industrial, or related field).
Experience:
3-5 years of experience in manufacturing, engineering, or product development.
Prior experience in NPI, project management, or a related role is preferred.
Experience with certification processes for UL, ETL, and Title 24 JA8 is highly desirable.
Skills:
Strong understanding of manufacturing processes and techniques.
Proficiency in CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, AutoCAD) and other engineering tools.
Familiarity with quality standards (e.g., ISO 9001, Six Sigma).
Excellent communication and organizational skills.
Problem-solving mindset with attention to detail.
Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.
Knowledge of safety and energy efficiency standards, including UL, ETL, and Title 24 JA8.
