Job Description
The Process Hazard Analysis (PHA) Facilitator is responsible for leading PHAs (HAZOP, What-if) and Layer of Protection Analysis (LOPA). The PHA Facilitator will provide risk identification/assessment consulting. Emphasis is placed on quality of the work product and the efficiency of work execution.
The PHA Facilitator will report to either the Project Manager who will establish clear expectations in terms of work quality, efficiency, and technical development. The PHA Facilitator will work directly with clients on technical aspects of the projects and therefore must be able to communicate technical requirements and deliverables clearly and concisely.
To fulfill this role, the PHA Facilitator will:
Be client-facing, having a proven record of building and maintaining positive and professional client relationships
Prepare, facilitate, scribe and write reports for the PHA (HAZOP, What-if, FMEA, HAZID)
Select the PHA methodology based on the complexity of the process and hazards involved
Ensure the PHA scenarios, consequences, safeguards, and recommendations are complete and correctly identified and captured in the PHA software
Assist with process safety and risk management consulting
Produce technical reports
Read and interpret Process & Mechanical Drawings, Cause & Effect Charts, SAFE Charts, Instrument Diagrams, etc.
Understand and comply with all Provenance and client safety procedures that govern the work being performed
Location
The position is in Houston, TX or Borger, TX (45 minutes northeast of Amarillo). Remote candidates will be considered will be considered on a case-by-case basis. Relocation incentives will be provided for qualified candidates.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate will have:
One of more years facilitating PHAs and LOPA
Five (5) or more years of experience in the oil and gas or petrochemical industry
Facilitated at least ten (10) PHAs with three (3) of them including a LOPA evaluation, preferred
Experience with PHA software (PHA Pro)
The ability to read process and mechanical drawings (PFD, MFD, P&ID)
Extensive experience participating on PHA teams
Process, mechanical or chemical design experience or extensive operating experience in oil & gas facilities
Knowledge of safety systems (Fire & Gas, Deluge, ESD)
Knowledge of Process Safety Management (PSM)
Excellent skills in facilitating group meetings
The ability to communicate effectively through verbal and written means, and able to adapt communication to best reach the intended audience within or outside the organization
The unrestricted right to work in the United States
It is preferred for the candidate to hold a Chemical or Mechanical Engineering degree with experience in engineering, operations or maintenance. Will consider engineers who have been members of numerous PHA review teams, have extensive operations experience and possess a strong desire to learn how to become a facilitator. Other combinations of education, training, and experience will be considered on a case-by-case basis.
