"Manager" might be in the title but we're looking for a LEADER. Do you have years of electrical technical experience that you're eager to share? Have you experienced the exhilaration of being integral to a whole greater than the sum of its parts? Have you had good leaders and bad leaders and want to lead better while also being boots on the ground rather than far off in a command post somewhere? We have a special opportunity, and we are looking for you.
*** Note: you must be a US Citizen or US Permanent Resident ***
Attributes: positive attitude, ownership mentality, very hands-on, resourceful, humble, vulnerable, open minded, hardworking, exceptional English skills both verbal and written (if you also speak Spanish, that's great!), interest in leading while doing
Location: on site at our headquarters in Camarillo, CA (841 Avenida Acaso)
What you'll be doing:
The Engineering Manager at AMC is that transition point between doing and leading and regularly gets to perform both. Yes, you are *capable* of executing a complicated power supply design effort by yourself (concept, schematic, PCB, build, test, ship), however you add more value by assigning, supporting, and verifying your team across multiple simultaneous projects. Imagine a chess master strategically moving pieces to win the match rather than an individual piece looking for the capture. That said, while you oversee your strongest team members on larger efforts there will regularly be smaller, urgent efforts that will arise that need to be addressed. Due to your limited team size, those smaller/urgent efforts you get to resolve yourself! It's an opportunity to keep your technical skills sharp without getting sucked too deep into any one particular effort.
Reporting to the Director of Engineering and Test, this is a position (and a company!) that is evolving and should be molded over time to bring out the best in you, your team, and AMC. Your primary responsibility will be the entire Engineering team: growth, maintenance, and evolution all the way to typical administrative tasks such as time sheet checks, PTO approvals, performance reviews, etc. A close second is direct electrical engineering contribution to projects. In addition, as requested and able, you'll be interfacing with customers, coordinating with AMC Production/Test/PM teams, and helping win new business. You'll work closely with your Director to divide and conquer various challenges and help shape the bright future of AMC. It's an exciting time!
This role is expected to be very hands-on and foster a similar mentality within your team. You may not be doing the technical design/build/test work yourself, but you *could* if needed and, more importantly, you want to and understand the value of having a team who is adept at doing so. Engineers at AMC don't just sit behind desks all day, and you support your team having the training and opportunities to consistently get their hands dirty. You will review/edit reports and provide effective feedback to improve the output of your team. You'll meet frequently with and seek to understand each of your team members' desires and goals and use that information to inspire the group to accomplish company-level goals. You'll need to be able to move around in tight spaces, gather information, walk up/down a flight of stairs several times daily, and occasionally lift/carry 25lbs all without interrupting the flow of production.
The best part about this job is that you'll be part of actually producing something. Not much is made in the USA anymore, so this is a unique opportunity. The best Engineering Managers are those who understand that everything is rooted in Engineering's output: the design. How efficient the company runs, how profitable the company is, how much the customer values the product AMC provides all boils down to the design, but an isolated, perfect design isn't any good if no one wants to build it, test it, sell it. It's a delicate balance between power and responsibility, pride and humility, and takes a special type of person to set the example and lead a team that gets it right over and over and over.
So, what are you waiting for? Send us an email or give us a call. We're waiting for you and excited to have you join the team!
