MEGI Engineering Inc. is a full-service engineering design and consulting firm located in Portland, OR serving the pulp and paper, industrial, power and utility, and chemical markets. As a process engineer, the successful candidate must be competent in performing, leading, and directing all conventional aspects of Process Engineering and application of judgment for the evaluation, selection, and adaptation of standard design criteria, methods, and procedures. Supervisory responsibility may include providing technical guidance and coordination for staff assigned to one or more projects, mentoring and developing staff, interviewing and recruiting potential new hires.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
Plan, organize, and oversee the process engineering activities with responsibility for quality and accuracy as well as performance budget and schedule
Understand the project scope and deliverables
Initiate timely project change notices when deviations are made from project scope that affect the cost of the work, deliverable and/or schedule
Establish the process design criteria for the project
Oversee PFD and P&ID development, heat and material balances, hydraulic calculations, and other process engineering tasks
Review and approve all process engineering deliverables
Prepare equipment specifications and assist in the development of bid packages for procurement of equipment
Review and check vendor information and reconcile verses the process design documents
Coordinate with design leaders from other disciplines to ensure inter-disciplinary alignment of the design effort
Review discipline design information and design drawings for process engineering input and participate in inter-discipline design reviews
Develop preliminary designs suitable for the level of estimate being prepared as part of a capital project development study
Maintain familiarity with and utilize industry standards, procedures, and guidelines
Check calculations, reports, and studies made by other engineers to ensure accuracy, as well as conformance to codes, specifications, design criteria and good engineering practices
Must possess exceptional organizational skills with emphasis on meeting customer deadlines
Must work well with group, possess good communication and be comfortable working in a fast-paced diverse environment
QUALIFICATIONS / QUALITIES
Bachelor of Science degree in Chemical, Mechanical or Paper Engineering
5+ years of experience in the pulp and paper industry preferred
Extensive knowledge of paper machine equipment, processes, and operations
Experience in PFD and P&ID development, heat and material balances, and equipment specifications
Proficient with MS office
Good communication skills, both verbal and written
Able to travel as required, typically up to 25%
Must pass drug test, physical, background check and must have a satisfactory driving record in accordance with the Company's driving (MVR) policy
US Citizenship and Valid US Driver's License
Typical duties will be performed in an office environment with occasional field trips to operating facilities or construction sites. This requires ability to sit for extended periods of time, computer data entry, normal hearing, the ability to stand, walk, reach, climb and balance, clear close and distance vision, depth perception and the ability to focus. Lifting 25 pounds may be required.
