Russell Tobin is partnering with a globally recognized medical device manufacturer to grow their team in the San Antonio area! The Product Design Engineer supports medical device projects by collaborating with cross-functional teams on product/process changes, cost reduction initiatives, failure investigations, testing, and engineering documentation. They drive resolution of engineering issues as a team contributor or project leader.
This is a contract role (expected duration of 1 year; potential for extension/transition to permanent) with a pay rate of $38-$40/hour.
Key Responsibilities
Lead design change efforts under senior guidance.
Manage assigned project deliverables.
Collaborate with local and international teams to advance projects.
Develop testing protocols and verification documentation for design changes.
Understand medical device life cycles, manufacturing processes, and technologies.
Contribute to creative problem-solving for device designs.
Create specifications for components, assemblies, and labeling.
Optimize designs for manufacturability with manufacturing engineers.
Perform engineering analysis and testing to verify designs meet requirements.
Participate in risk analysis and management activities.
Analyze test data using statistical tools and generate detailed reports.
Adhere to Design Control procedures and applicable regulatory requirements (e.g., 21CFR820, ISO 13485, ISO 14971).
Qualifications
Education: Bachelor's degree in Biomedical, Mechanical, Chemical, or related engineering field.
Experience: 3+ years in the medical device industry; internships in regulated environments (FDA/ISO) are a plus.
Skills and Competencies
Strong verbal and written communication.
Creative, detail-oriented, and self-motivated.
Solid understanding of mechanical principles.
Proficient with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Project).
Capable of maintaining confidentiality and exercising sound judgment.
