How This Position Contributes to the Team

A core part of the Communications Team, the Manager, Digital Communications and Multimedia Content is responsible for the Water Environment Federation’s (WEF) social media strategy, including daily management of social media platforms, media monitoring, and analytic reporting. The individual will also manage multimedia content creation, such as graphics, reels, banners, PDFs, brochures and flyers, event invitations, and infographics for WEF, WEFTEC and all related programs. The individual will also support website updates and writing/editing blogs and press releases.

NOTE: This position is open to either 100% remote work or hybrid work (80% remote, 20% in-office) and requires travel (up to 10% of the year) to generate social media content for WEF conferences and other events.

Principal Functions:

  • Manages WEF and WEFTEC's social media accounts (Facebook, X, Instagram, LinkedIn, Threads, and YouTube), including maintaining a robust content calendar and responding to inquiries.
    • Generates social media content by collaborating with other WEF departments to identify events, initiatives, and activities to share on social media—manages copy, tags/hashtags, link tracking, and creating necessary visuals.
    • Creates and edits graphics, reels, banners, PDFs, brochures, etc. using Canva, Adobe Express, Adobe Photoshop, and Adobe Illustrator.
    • Evaluates and prioritizes competing social media requests to maximize impact. Educates requesters on social media best practices.
    • Works with Senior Director of Public Outreach and Communications to create and develop internal and external organizational social media policies and procedures.
    • Compiles and evaluates social media metrics in monthly and yearly reports, and analyzes trends to modify social media approaches, expand audiences and engagement, and measure progress against goals.
    • Leads development and execution of tactics to maximize growth and engagement across WEF’s current and future social media accounts.
    • Ensures the security of all social media accounts, including drafting profile privacy rules and protocols.
  • Oversees WEF’s multimedia content creation – graphics, videos, blogs, brochures, etc.– and uses social media to promote and support ongoing and upcoming events and initiatives.
    • Gathers and post photos and short soundbites at events and conferences to use for future promotion.
  • Supports website updates and the writing/editing of blogs, press releases, and other communications materials.
  • Fulfills all sponsored social media obligations in a creative, fun, and engaging manner.
  • Partners with Marketing, Business Development and Membership teams to develop and execute social media campaigns in support of WEF campaigns.
  • Provides social media training to other departments, WEF volunteers, and the WEF Board of Directors.
  • Serves as a communications and social media Subject Matter Expert (SME) for WEF Communities.
  • Other duties as assigned by supervisor.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Marketing, Multimedia Content or related field.
  • 3-5 years of experience in a similar role.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Graphic design experience in Canva, Adobe Creative Suite, or similar platforms.
  • Experience working collaboratively while being confident to tackle projects proactively and independently.
  • Familiarity with data analytics and social media management platforms such as Meltwater and Hootsuite.
  • Experience managing paid social media content and digital advertising, including Google Ads and Facebook Business Suite.
  • Understanding of Search Engine Optimization (SEO) and/or Search Engine Marketing (SEM) implementation and best practices.
  • Understanding of public health, public policy, and environmental issues, particularly related to water.
  • Ability to travel up to 10% of the year to generate social media content for WEF conferences and other events.

This person will work primarily in an office environment using standard office equipment. Onsite duties will require longer periods of standing and/or walking.
