Description & Duties
Participate in the activities and timelines of the system design team for the entire development life cycle, including specification, design, unit functional testing, troubleshooting, implementation, integration and transfer to manufacturing
Carry out complex assignments requiring development of new or improved techniques or procedures
Provide input for design specifications and test plans, solutions and implementation
Troubleshoot and debug optical system design
Coordinate and assist in design verifications and validations
Conduct design reviews of fixtures and assemblies
Interact regularly with management to communicate status of milestones and impacts of technical hurdles
Review engineering documents and documentation
Work with Optical Scientists and Mechanical Engineers to design next generation optical systems
Coordinate and/or execute architectural design, implementation, and testing of certain major sub-assemblies with optical technicians
Experience
****2+ years in optical engineering design***
Experience designing and troubleshooting electronics, software or optics
Skilled in prototyping, fundamental optical design, data acquisition, data processing and system level thinking
Willing and able to own the design and testing of optical systems and subassemblies for use in automated biotech instrumentation
Working knowledge Zemax/Optica or other optical modeling software
Experience conducting laboratory experiments and troubleshooting laser systems
Experience conducting design verification of sub-systems
Experience with lab automation and machine vision
Excellent project management, analytical, problem solving and organizational skills
Experience with new product development/introduction and commercialization processes
Ability to self-organize and work with minimal supervision
Experience with MATLAB, Mathematica, python or C is a plus
Fluidics, Microfluidics experience a plus
Excellent written and oral communication skills and the ability to work flexibly and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment
Educational Background:
Bachelor's Degree in Optical or Mechanical Engineering or other engineering discipline; or 5+ years optomechanical design experience
