Early-stage startup revolutionizing 3D nanofabrication.
Operate at the forefront of modern optics & photonics.
Flexible benefits allowance and PTO policy.
We've teamed up with a revolutionary start-up who offer a novel manufacturing platform that can harness the full power of light to achieve first-of-its-kind advancements in 3D nanofabrication. With over $20m in venture & grant funding to date, they're now expanding the team, creating a need for a Head of Engineering to join them in Waltham, MA. They have a team of 15-20 currently, with plans to scale throughout 2025, meaning it's a great time to be joining. This is a primarily on-site role due to the nature of the project base, but they're very flexible with working arrangements, and remote working is still encouraged.
What will I do?
As the business grows, they're looking to build their future leadership structure, and this hire is essential to bridging multiple functions into a coherent workforce. You'll initially lead a team of 7, made up of skill sets in software, mechanical, optics, lithography, material science and research. This means you'll need to be adaptable and confident in holding complex technical discussions that span multiple subject matters. You'll be strategic in focus, overseeing technical project development and liaising with key stakeholders to ensure resources and technical risks are managed. The team that you'll manage primarily work on customer projects; they're involved in all areas of the manufacturing pipeline, from conception to delivery.
What skills do I need?
Proven scientific or technical background, with recent technical project & team leadership experience.
Technically/Academically skilled in Photonics, Optics, Materials, Chemistry or Advanced Manufacturing.
Cross-functional project & people leadership capability; preferably working closely with teams across Software, Mechanical, Optics, Materials, Lithography and Research (having exposure to all is not essential).
Diverse project portfolio, covering more than pure software-based projects.
Ability to manage concurrent projects, with exceptional time & budget management skills.
Previous experience in a start-up, or similarly fast-paced, changeable environment.
Well-versed in external & internal stakeholder management.
Familiar with nanofabrication / 3D nanofabrication concepts (preferable).
What do I get in return?
On top of a competitive salary in line with your experience, the business offers a flexible benefits allowance, tailored by you to ensure that you get the most out of your package. As well as that, their PTO policy is fully flexible, with regular vacation days encouraged by the wider team. They're an embryonic start-up, offering countless opportunities for progression and continued learning, giving you visibility to day-to-day operations in a mature, inclusive environment. You'd be surrounded by a talented team, working collectively towards a pioneering advancement in the field of photonics / nano-optics!
