Main Responsibilities:
  • Oversee and direct team operations, including document production, client interactions, internal team coordination, and project financials.
  • Develop project timelines with clear phases, deadlines, and milestones, and outline workflows and overall plans.
  • Handle contract and proposal creation, including scope, schedule, and cost, and submit these to clients after review by Senior Project Lead. Participate in initial project discussions.
  • Lead project initiation and closure meetings, as well as coordinate with both internal team members and external design partners.
  • Serve as the main point of contact for clients, ensuring their goals are understood, their requirements are met, and represent them in meetings.
  • Oversee project progress by reviewing plans, design, budgets, invoices, schedules, and results. Address challenges, and coordinate all activities to maintain project course. Work with the team to align efforts with project objectives.
  • Delegate tasks effectively, set clear expectations, and define deadlines, ensuring the team is aligned and accountable.
  • Collaborate with external teams to achieve project objectives.
  • Manage invoicing, including change orders and additional services.
  • Handle permit submissions and work with relevant authorities to meet location-specific requirements.
  • Ensure project quality control by guiding technical staff and addressing engineering issues.
  • Lead resource management for the project team, ensuring effective use of available resources.
  • Supervise technical engineering aspects of the project.
  • Enhance team performance by developing staff, matching individual strengths with appropriate tasks, anticipating obstacles, and conducting regular reviews.
  • Work with Senior Project Lead to balance staffing and workload.
  • Monitor team output to ensure compliance with industry standards and best practices.
  • Participate in recruitment efforts, including conducting interviews for new hires.
  • Perform regular one-on-ones with staff and contribute to performance reviews.
  • Organize and lead educational sessions to share new technologies and best practices.
  • Mentor staff across engineering departments.
  • Ensure accurate completion of personal timecards and timely review/approval of team members' timecards.
  • Contribute to new business development, with a focus on expanding relationships with current clients. 25% of projects should involve new clients, with 75% coming from existing or recurring clients.
  • Maintain clear communication, both internally (within and between departments) and externally (with clients, sub-consultants, and municipalities).
  • Contribute to the execution of strategic initiatives and suggest improvements to company practices.
  • Represent the company at industry events and conferences, including after-hours meetings when necessary.
  • Perform other assigned duties.
  • Achieve 60-70% billable hours, with non-billable time dedicated to internal meetings, professional development, community involvement, and other activities.
  • Manage projects ranging from $350K to $1M and oversee 3+ team members.

Desired Qualifications & Experience:
  • Bachelor's degree in civil, environmental, or related engineering discipline.
  • Professional Engineering License.
  • At least 10 years of experience in public works projects, with a proven history of success in project engineering and solid technical expertise.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office, MicroStation, Civil 3D, Bluebeam, and Pipe Networks.
  • Strong communication and problem-solving skills with a high emotional intelligence, able to interact both in-person and virtually.
  • Ability to track project progress closely, identifying scope creep and financial or scheduling discrepancies.
  • Promote a positive team environment and lead effectively in fast-paced settings.
  • In-depth knowledge of civil engineering design processes, plan preparation, and agency approvals.
  • Outstanding organizational skills and meticulous attention to detail.
  • Capability to work accurately under pressure, follow procedures, and prioritize tasks within complex environments.
  • Effective delegation to focus on management responsibilities.
  • Valid driver's license and auto insurance.

Physical Demands:
  • Ability to stand, walk, and sit as required.
  • Occasional visits to project sites.
  • Normal hearing range required.
  • Ability to lift up to 40 lbs occasionally.
  • Prolonged sitting with some bending and reaching required.
  • Adequate manual dexterity for using a keyboard and calculator.
  • Standard office noise levels.
