Job Description:

UI Health Care's Marketing and Communications department has an opening for a skilled STEM Education Coordinator to join the Outreach and Engagement team. The Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) Education Coordinator will be responsible for UI Health Care's planning, promotion, implementation, and reporting of STEM Education and health literacy initiatives for K-12 students across Iowa. The STEM Education Coordinator is part of the Outreach and Engagement division and reports to the Community Engagement Manager.


Responsibilities:



Message Development and Implementation


• Plan and implement on-campus, off-campus, and virtual STEM programs annually in alignment with the STEM Education strategic plan.

• Serve as project lead of complex community education programs and events, such as Kids Go STEM and Teens Go STEM, and staff events as needed.

• Coordinate efforts to develop marketing and educational materials for STEM education and workforce development, such as annual reports, student resources, program overviews, web page content, and more.

• Support development of new and updating existing K-12 STEM curriculum for programming.

• Develop a strategy and content for STEM or workforce development communications via social media, media relations, and newsletters.

• Draft PowerPoint presentations, infographics, annual reports, targeted email communications, and other materials to share with local, regional, and national partners and stakeholders.

• Manage STEM education email inbox and phone lines and respond to requests and messages in a timely fashion.

• Respond to job shadow requests and connect appropriate individuals.

• Build awareness of STEM outreach opportunities through internal communications channels and keep community members and partners connected and informed through external communications channels.

• May present about STEM education or workforce development initiatives at the local, regional, and national scale.



Public Relations


• Cultivate and maintain positive relationships with University departments, community businesses, and organizations for the planning and delivery of STEM education programs and initiatives.

• Work collaboratively with other UI Health Care STEM, workforce development, human resources or community outreach employees.

• Represent UI Health Care on STEM and workforce development boards and committees locally and nationally.

• Work collaboratively across Marketing and Communications and UI Health Care departments to optimize opportunities and meet program goals.



Information Management


• Collect, maintain, and pull data using analytical tools such as Microsoft Access, Signup Genius, Net Promoter Score, and Qualtrics; prepare summary reports, measuring performance within Outreach and Engagement initiatives.

• Prepare summary and impact reports, including post-project and fiscal year-end summaries, and presentations, to share with constituents and key stakeholders and analyze progress towards goals.


Strategic Planning


• Support the development, implementation, and tracking of progress toward STEM strategic plan initiatives aligned with institutional and departmental goals.

• Identify and coordinate public relations plans, program implementation, and program management strategies for UI Health Care's STEM education initiatives by priority regions and statewide.



Financial Responsibility


• Provide input on STEM Education budget each fiscal year.

• May analyze, monitor, and report financial data and information for STEM education initiatives.

• Provide monthly reconciliation of STEM education budget.

• Submit travel expenses for reimbursement for those involved in STEM outreach.



Supervision/Leadership


• Provide functional supervision, direction, and assignments to two student employees and program volunteers.



Required:

  • Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Relevant experience in public relations, communications, or marketing, preferably in an educational setting.
  • Excellent verbal communication skills, including experience or capacity to demonstrate positive interpersonal skills, develop and maintain collaborative working relationships, and participate in or lead project groups and teams.
  • Demonstrated time management and organizational skills; detail-oriented; ability to coordinate, track, and prioritize multiple projects or tasks simultaneously.
  • Demonstrated experience working effectively in a welcoming and respectful workplace environment.
  • Experience collecting and using data for program improvement and evaluation processes.
  • Excellent written communication skills, including experience in writing reports, newsletters, or social media and/or developing content for marketing/public relations materials.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including occasional evenings and weekends, when needed.
  • Ability to travel in the surrounding geographic area, hold a valid driver's license, and meet the University of Iowa Fleet Safety Program driving standards.

Desired:

  • Experience working with and leading K-12 student population.
  • Experience in public speaking.
  • Demonstrates knowledge and experience with STEM education.
  • Ability to learn recent technology and adapt to changes in a fast-paced environment.
  • Familiarity with higher education and academic medicine, as well as some knowledge of the University of Iowa and University of Iowa Health Care policies and procedures.
