The University of Iowa The Office of Student Financial Aid is seeking to hire a 100% Senior Assistant Director, Advising, Financial Wellness, and Outreach. If you have experience working with and supporting Financial Aid Advisors, promoting financial wellness, or managing financial aid programs, this may be the role for you!
In this role, you will provide leadership and supervision of our team of Financial Aid Advisors, our front-facing staff that are pivotal in providing service, advising, counseling, and support to students, parents, campus partners, and organizations both internally and externally. You will also track and monitor data on the most frequently asked questions from students and parents and provide recommendations on any enhancements needed to our communication materials and correspondence.
You will provide leadership and support for financial aid wellness initiatives and other outreach events carried out by the financial aid advising team and serves as a lead liaison with campus partners for student referrals. You will also collaborate to manage the SAP (satisfactory academic progress) review and regulatory compliance procedures for SAP.
The Senior Assistant Director, Advising, Financial Wellness, and Outreach will also have an opportunity to:
Train and assist staff to revise financial aid awards according to special circumstance requests, appeals, and professional judgment decisions.
Work with staff to make additional adjustments made based on changes in enrollment hours and costs, additional financial aid received, or at the request of the student.
Supervise staff efforts to educate and advise parents and current and prospective students in-person, via email, and by phone regarding financial aid policies, procedures, application processes, and federal, state, and institutional aid programs.
Oversight of Financial Wellness program
Coordinate all outreach events including Hawkeye Visit Days, Orientation, requests from student organizations, Campus Partners etc.

Required Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience is required (equivalent experience: at least four additional years of experience if no higher education degree).
Minimum one year experience working in a post-secondary academic setting or in another sector dealing with detail-oriented projects, counseling, and/or education.
Experience working with financial aid policies and procedures, typically one year at minimum.
Competencies Required:
Demonstrates a working proficiency level in the following competencies:
Facilitating student development, success, and outcomes: the ability to work developmentally with students; ability to promote student learning development, and success applying advising approaches to diverse individual student situations
Communicating for effective relationships: knowledge and application of the communication techniques and relationship building skills that develop the ability to work with a variety of individuals and groups in a constructive and collaborative manner
Effective presentation skills: preparing and delivering effective presentations; typically demonstrated with six months to one year of public speaking.
Accuracy and attention to detail: understanding of the necessity and value of accuracy and attention to detail; ability to process information with high levels of accuracy.
Data gathering and analysis: knowledge of data gathering and analysis tools, techniques and processes; ability to use these to gather and analyze data for specific or variety of needs and/or projects
Working proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Work, and Outlook
Desirable Qualifications:
M.A. degree in Student Development or related field is desirable
2-5 years' experience in financial aid or related field
Prior supervisory experience, typically six months or more
A basic proficiency in the knowledge of University of Iowa policies, procedures, and regulations

Work Modality: This position is eligible for hybrid work within Iowa and will require a work arrangement form to be completed upon the start of your employment. Compensation: $54,000 to commensurate with Competitive Benefits
