Senior /Post-Doctoral Housing Research Associate


The Housing Initiative at Penn (HIP) seeks applications for a Senior or Post-Doctoral Research Associate to conduct empirical research related to housing insecurity, economic precarity, and public assistance. HIP is dedicated to achieving more effective, equitable housing policy at the local, state, and national levels. HIP advances policy through rigorous research, civic partnerships, and honest and inclusive planning processes. As a member of the HIP research team, the Senior/Post-Doctoral Research Associate will contribute to HIP's academic publications, working papers, and research reports. The Senior/Post-Doctoral Research Associate will also be responsible for managing discrete research projects.


 



Projects


HIP is engaged in a variety of research projects, including 1) working directly with local partners to evaluate rental or cash assistance programs targeted towards cost-burdened or homeless populations; 2) examining the impact of home repair and housing preservation programs; and studying existing programs and policies aimed at addressing issues of housing stability, eviction, and affordability. As the Senior/Post-Doctoral Housing Research Associate, you will lead one or more of the above projects.


 



Essential Functions



  • Generates academic articles, reports, and working papers in collaboration with HIP staff, interns, and faculty, as well as independently

  • Works directly with municipal and other partners to conceptualize, design, and manage large-scale research projects

  • Mentor and support project team members in carrying out research and project work

  • Presents research at research and practitioners' conferences and other venues and translates findings to broader audiences

  • Works collaboratively as part of a tight-knit team



Position Details:



  • Full-time salaried position

  • Salary commensurate with experience

  • Option to work remotely with a general expectation of in-office work three days per week


 




Qualifications:



  • Demonstrated interest in affordable housing policy and/or racial and socioeconomic inequality

  • Strong quantitative analysis skills, including facility with statistical and geospatial analysis techniques

  • Strong written and oral communication skills; previous experience with academic writing a plus

  • Project-management skills, including ability to meet multiple deadlines, manage research assistants, and advance complex projects

  • PhD in fields related to public policy, urban planning, sociology, or data management and analysis preferred, but master's degree with a history of research experience will be considered
