Software Engineer 1 – Job Description

Position Summary
The System Integration team is looking for talented software engineer with a passion for quality to be part of a test team that creates and executes automated testing to validate software features on F5 hardware platforms.  In this role, you will have the opportunity to work with various teams from product marketing to development engineers to determine test requirements.  This position will allow you to engage in all aspects of the test lifecycle, including integration, debugging, and triaging.  Other opportunities for innovations and new technology contributions are available with improvements to the test utilities and infrastructure.  You’ll be working as part of a US multi-site team that values strong collaboration and support of our teammates in a diverse and inclusive environment.

Primary Responsibilities


  • Works both independently and with senior engineers to develop high-quality test automation that verifies system level features or customer scenarios.

  • Executes, analyzes and evaluates test results, reports and assists in resolution of product issues.

  • Participates actively in code review process; posting reviews; incorporating feedback along with reviewing automation submitted by other team members for adherence to coding standards

  • Develops expertise in features and components of the product to understand how to design test automation to verify the feature.

Knowledge and Skills


  • Proficiency in developing test automation code using Python.

  • Solid understanding of software quality methodologies and processes.

  • Understanding of container technologies (e.g. Kubernetes, Docker, etc.), experience a plus.  

  • Familiarity with CI/CD and project management tools (e.g. Git, Gitlab, Jira, bug tracking tools, etc)

  • Competency with RESTful API development, JSON, and microservice architectures, experience a plus.

  • Able to collaborate and thrive in a fast-paced high-performance environment. 

  • Knowledge in IP networking:  routing, switching, and network standards from layer 1 on up through the transport and application layers is desired.   

  • Strong organizational skills, analytical skills, attention to detail and excellent problem solving/troubleshooting skills.

  • Networking knowledge, working knowledge of HTTP, DNS, TCP/IP desired.

  • Ability to balance multiple projects in a high paced environment

Qualifications:


  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or equivalent field or work experience.  

  • 1+ years in testing and/or development of computer software, preferably in the Linux environment using Python.

  • Demonstrated experience in testing fundamentals. Writing test cases, creating test plans, owning defects from beginning to end, and test case automation.

  • New college graduate applicants accepted with course work in these areas.

The annual base pay for this position is: $94,558.00 - $141,838.00

F5 maintains broad salary ranges for its roles in order to account for variations in knowledge, skills, experience, geographic locations, and market conditions, as well as to reflect F5’s differing products, industries, and lines of business. The pay range referenced is as of the time of the job posting and is subject to change.
