Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center is home to the largest laboratory in NH, providing Pathology and Clinical Laboratory services to D-H physician practices, D-H hospital affiliates as well as to independent practices and hospitals throughout NH and VT. At the direction of the supervisor and in conjunction with the Anatomic Pathology management team, performs duties to facilitate specimen verification, processing and triaging testing for the Anatomic Pathology - Cytology services to include, but are not limited to specimen processing, instrument routine maintenance and troubleshooting, fine needle aspirate procedure processing and support for patient procedures, documentation and hazardous materials management. Performs grossing of specific tissue types for Pathology to aid in diagnosis. May also perform routine paraffin embedding, frozen sectioning, procuring control tissue, equipment maintenance and tissue banking. We are offering a $2500 sign-on/retention bonus for this position. *The bonus is available for external hires only and certain conditions apply.
This is a full-time, 40-hour/week position working Monday - Friday 7:00am-3:30pm and 9:00am-5:30pm, bi-weekly rotation. This position does not require holidays.
Responsibilities
Performs grossing of specific tissue types.
Performs routine paraffin embedding.
Performs frozen sectioning.
Procures control tissue and tissue banking.
Operates and maintains processing and staining equipment
Ensures accurate results by following established quality control practices.
Identifies when a QC problem exists and notifies appropriate technical staff.
Performs other duties as required or assigned.
Qualifications
Previous work experience in a clinical histology laboratory preferred.
An earned associate degree in a chemical or biological science or medical laboratory technology, obtained from an accredited institution, OR
Education/training equivalent to the above that includes the following:
60 semester hours or equivalent from an accredited institution. This education must include 24 semester hours of medical laboratory technology courses, OR 24 semester hours of science courses that includes six semester hours of chemistry, six semester hours of biology, and 12 semester hours of chemistry, biology or medical laboratory technology in any combination, AND
Laboratory training including either completion of a clinical laboratory training program approved or accredited by the ABHES, NAACLA, or other organization approved by HHS (note that this training may be included in the 60 semester hours listed above), OR at least three months of recorded laboratory training in each specialty in which the individual performs high complexity testing.
