Duties & Responsibilities:

VIAVI Solutions has developed advanced fiber optic sensing technology used in the oil and gas industry to monitor wells and pipelines or in power utilities to monitor onshore and offshore cable condition and performance. This role is for a Field Application Engineer who provides technical expertise through sales presentations, product demonstrations, installation, and maintenance of fiber sensing solutions. This would require technical product and application engagement across transmission operators, engineering, construction, and integrators companies, The successful individual will assist the commercial teams in assessing potential application of sensing solutions to meet customer needs and preparing detailed product specifications and processes for the development and implementation of our solutions into customer projects and tenders on time. As part of this role, you will work within the Fiber Business Unit on technical product engagements, outlining capabilities, feature enhancements and requirements to meet the customer and market needs.

The ideal candidate should have experience in technically supporting and delivering solutions for DAS, DTS, DTSS in the oil & gas or power & utility markets. You will help accelerate customer adoption, solution success and integration, in addition to building relationships and technical winning strategies into projects across the defined segments.

Pre-Requisites / Skills / Experience Requirements:

Key Requirements:


  • Build regional technical differentiation strategies for oil & gas or power & utility markets.

  • Support commercial teams in building solutions value cases for stakeholders.

  • Demonstrate feasibility of the solutions to meet customer requirements.

  • Establish and promote unique value propositions that set our solutions apart with customers.

  • Lead proof of concept and trials with TSO, EPC, or system integrators in target projects.

  • Technical lead for RFP, RFQ submissions tailored to the customers’ requirements.

  • Become a "Trusted technical advisor" to help influence positioning and portfolio adoption.

  • Understands oil & gas or power & utility operating systems and asset management processes.

  • Ensures solutions success is functioning according to specification in the given application.

  • Provide follow-up support to sales teams and customers by disseminating technical information on specific applications. 

  • Proven skills in post-sales technical provisioning and delivery of solutions

  • Provide consultation to prospective users and/or product capability assessment and validation.

  • Self-motivated and organized with excellent problem-solving ability.

  • Ability to deliver presentations to customers, conferences, and technical seminars.

  • Can challenge current processes or methods based on technology and understanding.

  • Exceptional at listening to understand customer requirements and translate/apply our value.

  • Proven skills in working in a multi-cultural and fast-moving environment.

  • Willing to travel for this role (max 50% time).

  • Typically, 50% of the time will be providing pre-sale technical support and 50% of time providing post-sale technical support. 

Required skills and Qualification:


  • Bachelor’s or advanced science or engineering degree required.

  • Proven technical knowledge of fiber optics including sensing technologies such as DAS, DTS and DTSS.

  • Fundamental use case and technical understanding in Oil & Gas pipeline or power & utility transmission systems applications.

  • At least 5 years’ experience in the oil and gas market segment.

  • Fluent in English with excellent oral and written communication and presentation skills.

  • Full driver’s license

to

178,100
