Basic Job Functions:



SUMMARY:

The Manufacturing Engineer is responsible for developing and improving manufacturing process by studying product and manufacturing methods. Design layout of equipment and workspace for maximum efficiency. Confer with management, engineering purchasing and other staff regarding manufacturing capabilities and other considerations to facilitate production processes. Confer with vendors to determine product specifications, materials and evaluate product according to specifications and quality standards.

  • Improve overall productivity by designing and installing integrated systems and equipment.
  • Develop and implement new process techniques into manufacturing environment.
  • Analyze manufacturing process flows continually for enhancement of quality, cost reduction and throughput.
  • Provide manufacturing decision making information by calculating production, labor, and material costs.
  • Develop and implement Robotics systems and NC automated systems to our manufacturing floor.
  • Collaborate with design engineering to ensure effectual production methods.
  • Confer with vendors in determining product specifications.
  • Provide engineering support in production department to troubleshoot and resolve technical problems.
  • Investigate new technology for manufacturing.
  • Create and modify document and/or spreadsheets.
  • Implement CNC equipment and associated programming.
  • Assist with selecting quality inspection equipment and required processes.


Safety is the most important part of all jobs within Nucor; therefore, candidates must be able to demonstrate the ability to initiate, lead, and uphold safety policies, practices, procedures, and housekeeping standards at all times.




Minimum Qualifications:




  • Extensive experience with AutoCAD & SolidWorks to include both models and drawings.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite to include Outlook, Excel and Word.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprint and work instructions.
  • Ability to use hand tools, power tools, calipers and tape measures.
  • Knowledgeable in fabrication techniques.
  • Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
  • Bachelor's degree (B. A.) from four-year college or university in the field of Manufacturing, Mechanical or Industrial Engineering
  • Ability to do an occasional amount of local travel for company business will be required (1-2 trips per month).
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. occasionally.
  • Ability to squat, kneel, stand occasionally.
  • Ability to climb stairs and or ladders occasionally.
  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.




Preferred Qualifications:




  • Experience in robotic programming and CNC programming.
  • Experience with SketchUp.
  • High electrical and mechanical aptitude.
  • Experience with operating a forklift, a scissor lift and nail guns.
  • Knowledgeable in OSHA regulations.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, customers, and/or the general public.
