As part of the continued growth and innovation of our Impact Assessment & Planning service offering, ERM has an opportunity for an experienced Principal Consultant to join our thriving global consulting firm as a Vegetation Management Environmental Workstream Lead in Northern California (Walnut Creek, or Sacramento offices). The ideal candidate will have experience conducting environmental impact, planning, and permitting efforts with California utilities. We seek an individual to lead ERM’s planning, biological and environmental compliance support for an ongoing contract with a large California utility to support their Vegetation Management operations and maintenance activities

ERM’s Impact Assessment & Planning (IAP) team focuses on supporting development of projects in the power, technology, oil and gas, mining, chemical, transport, and infrastructure sectors. Our goal is always the same: assisting our clients in achieving project success, from planning through construction and operation, while minimizing sustainability risks and maximizing project speed and adaptability.

ERM’s IAP service offering has been ERM’s highest growth area globally, growing over 20% per year for the past 5 years.  You will become part of a vibrant technical community with more than 1,000 IAP professionals globally, representing the full range of technical disciplines, with sector experience across the board.  What ERM’s team is best known for is supporting some of the most challenging development projects in the world.  It is this reputation that attracts and retains the highly skilled consultants who comprise ERM’s Impact Assessment & Planning team.

RESPONSIBILITIES:


  • Serve as the Contract Environmental Workstream Lead involving project reviews and permitting under CA regulatory permitting agencies such as United States Forest Service, Bureau of Land Management, CA State Parks, National Park Service, US Fish and Wildlife Service, CA Department of Fish and Wildlife, CA Coastal Zone, etc.

  • Oversee several disciplinary teams to ensure client deliverable expectations are met

  • Build strong collaborative and trusting relationships with the client

  • Responsible for delivering client guidance to the team and ensuring it is followed

  • Interface with client contract owner and provide weekly updates

  • Provide technical guidance to junior staff supporting this work

  • Develop corrective action plans for client relating to schedule delays and staffing

  • Support unit rate pricing invoicing

  • Drive innovation within the Impact Assessment and Planning service offering to stay ahead of client needs and to differentiate ERM in the market. 

  • Meet business health & safety performance standards, financial targets, overall project budgets and schedules, client satisfaction/expectations, and internal risk management and contractual requirements.

REQUIREMENTS:


  • Bachelor’s degree in environmental studies, biology, planning, geography, civil or environmental engineering or related field.

  • 6+ years of relevant experience with CEQA and NEPA review and CA natural resource regulatory agency permitting, including experience with the electric/gas transmission and generation markets in California. 

  • Knowledgeable and experienced in California Coastal Commission and Local Coastal Plan Coastal Zone Development Permitting

  • Proven track record in developing and implementing successful business growth strategies with power generation, electrical transmission, renewable energy projects, mining, oil & gas, technology clients. 

  • Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain long-term relationships with clients, and book personal sales in new IA consulting services. 

  • Solid grasp of the key impact assessment and management issues, as well as a high degree of technical competence and broad knowledge of impact assessment best practices. 

  • Well-developed teambuilding and influencing skills; unquestioned integrity; and the experience, confidence, and stature to effectively address client and business needs and challenges. 

  • Positive outlook, collaborative, and driven by the success of ERM as a global company.

  • Strong commitment to safety, including following established health and safety protocols.

PREFERRED:


  • Master’s degree in environmental studies, biology, planning, geography, civil or environmental engineering or related field; JD, CEP, AICP or similar registration.

  • 10+ years preferred of consulting experience with impact assessments, CEQA and NEPA review and CA natural resource regulatory agency permitting, including experience with the electric/gas transmission and generation markets in California. 

For the Principal Consultant, Vegetation Management Lead Planner (Principal Level) position, we anticipate the annual base pay of $115,500 – $131,488 (USD).  An employee’s pay position within this range will be based on several factors including, but not limited to, relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, geographic location, performance, shift, travel requirements, sales or revenue-based metrics, and business or organizational needs.  We also may have instances where employee’s fall outside of the range based on the factors noted above. This job may be eligible for bonus pay (casual and fixed term/flex force employees are NOT bonus eligible).
