Our state-of-the-art investment casting facility in La Porte, Indiana is seeking an Automation Engineer to join our team. Nestled halfway between South Bend and Chicago, along the shores of Lake Michigan - our facility in La Porte, Indiana supplies jet engine components to some of the most trusted names in the Aerospace industry.
This position is responsible for all Howmet Transport Services, Inc. (HTS) Department of Transportation (DOT) safety and employee health and safety (EHS) training, filings, submissions and compliance to applicable rules and associated guidelines. The position must ensure that Howmet Transport Services, Inc. and Howmet Logistics Services comply with DOT, including hazardous materials, and OSHA regulations. This position is responsible for driver on-site EHS compliance through various Howmet locations, vendor sites and customer locations, as well as on road driver compliance.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
• Prioritize, guide, and facilitate the activities of the HTS team to meet organizational goals, initiatives and requirements.
• Oversee the development and deployment of standard policies, procedures, and practices to ensure customer requirements, ASAT's, and EHS directives are embodied in the HTS system.
• Enforce the administration and implementation of HTS/DOT safety system to assure the flow-down of industry, customer and corporate standards to all drivers and that said drivers are compliant to enacted policies and standards.
• Manage driver files for DOT compliance.
• Participate in the hiring process including reviewing employment files from contract agencies, interviewing, and recommending drivers for hire.
• Responsible for investigating all accidents and incidents and filing reports on findings to management and our insurance provider.
• Responsible for developing a training package for onboarding of new drivers and coordinating with the Compliance Specialist to provide all necessary training to drivers and site personnel.
• Responsible for ELD system review and driver management, coaching and discipline regarding speeding, tickets, hard braking, equipment damage, and logging violations.
• Review and act upon on road camera systems to coach and counsel drivers for safer on road experiences.
• Manage safe driving bonus program.
• Responsible for hazardous material compliance and training.
• Driver advocate - helping drivers help themselves and ultimately making our driver pool world class in the industry.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
Job responsibilities and duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:
• Consistently demonstrates Howmet Values
• Complies with all Howmet policies/procedures.
• Complies with all EHS rules required by each of the plants in which we operate.
• Oversees DOT safety at all Howmet Transport Services, Inc. satellite facilities.
• Provides DOT safety and regulatory guidance to HTS personnel and all contract personnel, including drivers, admin staff and warehouse forklift operators.
• Ensures driver files meet and remain current with DOT requirements, updating as necessary to remain compliant.
• Conducts new hire orientation and CMV driver basics courses, as well as periodic on road safety topics for drivers and staff.
• Oversee preparation and submission of various reports as may be requested by Howmet management or as required by law.
• Conducts annual Defensive Driver Course - Professional Truck Driver for leased drivers and traveling Howmet staff when required.
• Remains current with DOT, OSHA, and Hazardous Materials regulations as they affect our operations.
• Maintains drug and alcohol testing records as required by DOT.
• Recommends driver agency disciplinary actions based on pattern behavior, logging violations and/or driving related high-risk behavior.
• Maintains driver safety bonus program and recommends forfeiture or elimination of bonus for problem drivers.
• Manages program for auditing driver trips for log falsification and irregularities.
• Ensures location safety programs are up to date.
• Mobile Equipment SPA for HLS/HTSI.
• Maintains all Hazardous Material certifications and keeps the fleet up to date on hazmat changes as well as monitors driver endorsements for hazmat.
• Maintains records and reviews files for other driver endorsements like Tanker - needed in the HTSI envelope for liquid bulk totes.
• Manages Toll transponders, EZ Pass, and Scale Pass systems for all of HTSI.
• Performs other work-related duties as assigned.
• Must be able to function as a member of a team, assist team members when needed and be able to work under general supervision.
• Performs routine special projects, as directed.
• Participates in Continuous Improvement programs for dock operations, route optimization and other safety related programs for HLS and HTSI.
• Assists, when required, with other departmental/backup duties.
• Work overtime, as needed.
