This Senior Accountant role supports Corporate Accounting and its subsidiary accounting by participating and leading projects or special requests to completion.  This relates to new corporate strategic initiatives and departmental initiatives impacting accounting and supporting systems.  It includes but is not limited to new products and services, system transformations, corporate restructurings, contractual review, technical accounting review for both GAAP and STAT reporting.  This work spans the entire Independence Health Group.  This role may also be asked to support monthly, quarterly and year end reporting, working across the corporate accounting teams supporting management.  Our goal is to be responsive to our internal customer base via accurate and timely responses to requests ensuring projects and new capabilities are successfully implemented effectively and efficiently.


Job Duties:


·     Recommends and implements changes in departmental accounting practices and procedures


·     Appropriately coordinates all changes in accordance with sound accounting practices and policies


·     Recommends and implements changes in appropriate key controls supporting Model Audit Rule


·     Ensures all project deadlines are met


·     Actively participates in the completion of monthly, quarterly and annual close processes, assisting across the management group, giving support as needed during peak times and staffing attrition


·     Participates in various ongoing weekly/monthly work groups and status meetings as related to various corporate initiatives impacting accounting


·     Key Accounting representative for corporate sponsored projects, system implementations and production support


·     Provides guidance and drives process implementation and controls for corporate projects


·     Coordinates with internal customers and is responsive to all questions and requests for information


·     Identifying and implementing financial discipline improvements and enhancements within accounting


Qualifications:


·     BS/BA in Accounting preferred


·     CPA preferred


·     Public accounting audit experience preferred


·     Proficient knowledge of general and health insurance industry accounting practices & principles


·     Strong written and oral communication skills required to demonstrate business solutions in a clear concise manner to all levels of management.


·     Five or more years of accounting experience (public and/or private combined) for a health insurance or comparable industry (size and complexity) or comparable function


·     Shows effective leadership abilities and working in a team environment


·     Strong organizational, analytical and project planning skills, time management skills, proficient in Microsoft Office tools (i.e. Excel, Word, PowerPoint)


·     Working knowledge of supporting technologies (i.e. PeopleSoft) and large ERP systems, Data Warehouses


·     Working knowledge of identifying and implementing system and operational controls


·     Must be willing to learn and gain proficiency with unfamiliar applications and all current system general ledger interface business rules and data feeds


Independence has implemented a “Hybrid” model which consists of Associates working in the office 3 days a week (Tuesday, Wednesday & Thursday) and remotely 2 days a week (Monday & Friday). This role is designated as a role that fits into the “Hybrid” model. While associates may work remotely on our designated remote days, the work must be performed in the Tri-State Area of Delaware, New Jersey or Pennsylvania
