TASK DESCRIPTION

Aircraft Mechanic III (23023): Leads a team in the performance of aircraft maintenance, inspections, and scheduled / unscheduled maintenance. Processes the technical experience to supervise subordinate mechanics and provide technical guidance on maintenance operations on the airframe being supported. Capable of performing, supervising and inspecting the duties of Mechanic Is, IIs and IIIs. A person in this position maintains repairs and modifies aircraft structures, structural components and engines of complex to extreme difficulty, maintains and repairs aircraft components including but not limited to flight controls, engines, hydraulics, pneumatics, fuel systems and mechanical components, and applies technical knowledge of airframe and power plant systems in determining equipment malfunctions and applies technical expertise in restoring equipment condition and operation. This worker also applies professional technical expertise and guidance to solve complex problems by interpreting technical data such as blueprints or manufactures' manuals. Work typically requires a thoroughly comprehensive knowledge of aircraft mechanical component troubleshooting/repair procedures and replacement of components, a thorough knowledge of aircraft sheet metal/structural modification and repair and the ability to determine functionality of non-complex electrical systems. A detailed knowledge of aircraft unique tools such as test equipment, torque wrenches, dial indicators, micrometers, cable tensiometers, sheet metal brakes and sheers, etc. is required. Must possess the experience and ability to provide technical support to structural/mechanical engineers and customers alike, must possess excellent organizational skills in prioritizing workload to meet aircraft delivery schedule. This worker will be required to make entries in aircraft logs and records, and is responsible for providing guidance and technical expertise to lower level technicians throughout all aircraft modifications and/or maintenance efforts.

TASK REQUIREMENTS

The Aircraft Mechanic III tasks shall include, but are not limited to:


  • Maintain repairs and modifies aircraft structures, structural components, and engines of complex to extreme difficulty.
  • Maintain and repair aircraft components including but not limited to flight controls, engines, hydraulics, pneumatics, fuel systems and mechanical components.
  • Apply technical knowledge of airframe and power plant systems in determining equipment malfunctions and applies technical expertise in restoring equipment condition and operation.
  • Apply professional technical expertise and guidance to solve complex problems by interpreting technical data such as blueprints or manufactures' manuals. Work typically requires a thoroughly comprehensive knowledge of aircraft mechanical component troubleshooting/repair procedures and replacement of components, a thorough knowledge of aircraft sheet metal/structural modification and repair and the ability to determine functionality of non-complex electrical systems.
  • Utilize aircraft unique tools such as test equipment, torque wrenches, dial indicators, micrometers, cable tensiometers, rollers, grinders, drills, pneumatic squeezers, rivet guns, sheet metal brakes and sheers, etc.
  • Experience in reading and interpreting aviation drawings and manuals.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

All the qualifications listed below are required for this position:


  • Minimum of 10 or more years related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience (e.g. vocational school/Associate+5 years' related work, Bachelor, etc.).
  • Experience in providing technical support to structural/mechanical engineers and customers.
  • Must possess excellent organizational skills in prioritizing workload to meet aircraft delivery schedule.
  • Must possess experience in providing guidance and technical expertise to lower-level technicians throughout all aircraft modifications and/or maintenance efforts specifically those related to sheet metal repairs and fabrication of sheet metal parts.
  • Required to have the ability to measure and evaluate structural aircraft damage.
  • Knowledge, skills, and abilities sufficient to layout, fabricate, repair and assemble sheet metal.
  • Valid FAA Airframe & Powerplant license strongly preferred.
  • Experience working with Aviation sheet metal.
  • Must be able to work 1 st or 2 nd shift as required.
  • Have an investigation completed at a National Agency Check with Inquiries (NACI) level or higher and obtain fingerprints.

Aircraft Mechanic III Assessment

  • The Government will administer a Sheet Metal test prior to performance for work under contract for any Sheet Metal Mechanic (aircraft) required during performance of this contract to ensure the Sheet Metal Mechanic (aircraft) possess the qualifications required. The assessment test will consist of identification of metal alloys for fabrication of aircraft parts and used to repair aircraft and associated parts. How to read measurement tools such as radius gauges, dial calipers, micrometers, and depth gauges. Must have knowledge of using tools such as shrinker/stretcher machine and a spot welder.
  • All tools and associated materials will be provided by the USCG to perform the tasks.
  • The assessment will be evaluated as pass or fail. The Government Point of Contact (POC) will notify the contractor of the results of this test no later than the close of the business day the test is administered. If the assessment is failed, the person will be removed from consideration for the position.
Assessment Criteria

  • All materials, toolbox and work bench will be provided, and project will be assessed per the below criteria.
  • Reading drawings------fabricate part from drawing provided (composition and dimension).
  • Form Block---------------fabricate sample part provided on a form block also provided.
  • Finished part will be free of wrinkles and straight.

Compensation

$45.50/year

Other Compensation

The Company and the employees will share the cost of medical and dental insurance coverage for full time active employees (75% Company/25% Employee) IAW CBA. Employees may elect to waive medical and dental insurance coverage with proof of insurance and elect to receive $4.25 per hour for each hour paid up to 40 hours per week.

Employees are offered medical, dental, vision, and basic life insurance. Employees are able to enroll in KAI's 401k plan. Employees accrue a minimum of 5.54 hours vacation time bi-weekly IAW CBA.

Employment is contingent on (a) your ability to provide appropriate proof of your identity and eligibility to work in the United States; (b) your references and any background check being satisfactory to the Company; (c) you successfully passing a pre-employment drug test; and (d) your ability to get a required clearance by your effective start date, if needed; and (e) KAI commencing performance on this contract.
