Temporary Part-Time Strategic Business Consultant - Remote

We are currently seeking a Part-Time Strategic Business Consultant who is available for a term of approximately 6 months and who resides in one of the following states where Annual Reviews is registered to do business: CA, CO, GA, HI, IL, IN, MA, MN, NC, NY, OH, OR, PA, SC, WA, or WI.
Responsibilities include: Working closely with President & Editor-in-Chief to define the strategic vision for Annual Reviews, helping guide AR’s business strategies and proposes solutions to ensure continued success in an evolving and competitive landscape, playing a key role in identifying and evaluating new business opportunities and strategic investments within the scholarly publishing industry and similar sectors that align with AR’s mission and financial objectives, conducting market research and strategic assessments and providing insights into market trends, competitor dynamics, and potential investments to drive AR’s long-term success, and working with the President & Editor-in-Chief, CFO, Brain’s Trust and Board Committees, and Management Team.
Qualified candidates must have:
• Minimum of 7-10 years of experience in strategic consulting, business development, M&A or a leadership role ideally within the scholarly or academic publishing, technology or related industries.
• Proven track record of developing and executing successful business strategies in a fast-paced, global environment and of supporting or leading strategic investment and acquisition activities.
• Strong understanding of the scientific publishing landscape, including trends in open access, digital publishing, and academic research.
• Experience working with cross-functional teams and managing complex projects.
• Experience conducting financial analysis, due diligence, and market assessments.
• Strong understanding of the scholarly publishing ecosystem, including trends in digital publishing, open access, and new business models.
• Exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to distill complex data into actionable insights.
• Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills with the ability to synthesize complex information for senior leadership and external stakeholders.
• Ability to navigate a dynamic, often ambiguous, market environment and adapt strategies as needed.
• Knowledge of digital publishing tools, platforms, and emerging technologies in the academic space is highly desirable.
• Strong financial modeling and analytical skills, with the ability to evaluate complex financial data and draw strategic conclusions.
• Excellent research and market analysis skills, with a deep understanding of market dynamics and industry-specific drivers.
• Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and manage multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced environment.
• Familiarity with the legal and regulatory aspects of mergers and acquisitions, including intellectual property rights and publishing regulations.
• Ability to travel domestically/internationally approximately once per month.
• B.S. degree in Business, Science, Technology, Engineering, or a related field; MBA or equivalent advanced degree strongly preferred.

Following is the pay scale/ salary range that Annual Reviews expects to pay for this position: $10-15,000/month. Actual compensation will be determined by several factors including but not limited to: level of experience, skills, and specific home office location.
