Overview
The Network Administrator is responsible for providing first-line support for network-related issues, monitoring network performance, and assisting with the maintenance and administration of network devices. This role requires a foundational understanding of networking principles and a strong aptitude for troubleshooting and resolving technical issues efficiently. This person will escalate more complex problems to senior network team members as needed and work closely with IT staff to support network stability and user satisfaction. This person will be expected to take the necessary actions to ensure a hgh-performing and highly available network infrastructure is maintained in a sustainable and process oriented manner (e.g. change control, professional documentation, etc.).
Responsibilities
Network Monitoring and Maintenance
Monitor network performance and availability, identifying and addressing any issues or anomalies.
Track network status using monitoring tools and respond to alerts and notifications.
Perform routine maintenance tasks, such as checking hardware health, applying updates, and managing logs.
Basic Troubleshooting and Support
Respond to and resolve Level 1 network issues, including connectivity problems and basic configuration adjustments.
Escalate complex issues to Level 2/3 support when necessary, following established escalation procedures
Assist end-users and internal teams with connectivity questions and basic troubleshooting
Documentation and Reporting
Maintain accurate records of network incidents, resolutions, and network device configurations.
Document troubleshooting steps for recurring issues to build a knowledge base for future reference.
Generate basic reports on network status, usage, and uptime for review by senior administrators.
Configuration and Setup Assistance
Support the installation and setup of new network devices, such as switches, routers, and access points, under the guidance of senior network staff.
Assist with cable management and hardware setup within server rooms or data centers as needed.
Security and Compliance
Follow network security protocols to maintain secure access and usage within the network
Monitor for unauthorized access attempts and report potential security incidents to senior staff.
Collaboration and Communication
Work closely with the IT TAC to support the resolution of network-related support tickets.
Communicate status updates effectively to users and other IT team members.
Qualifications
Requirements
Working technical knowledge of current Internet and network protocols
Ability to conduct research into networking issues and products as required.
Entry-level experience in networking is required
Cisco Certified Entry Networking Technician (CCENT) is preferred.
CompTIA Network+ certification is preferred
