Job Summary
MGH Radiation Oncology is seeking a compassionate, per diem Staff Nurse (RN) to join their outpatient practice atNewton Wellesley Hospital and Emerson Hospital. • The RN will discuss patient diagnosis and plan of care with the Radiation Oncologist • Perform initial patient assessment which recognizes age appropriate behavior, nutritional needs, cognitive and physiologic norms. • Provide age appropriate patient education regarding radiation, chemotherapy, diagnostic tests, medications, symptom management and follow-up care. • Identify, facilitate and evaluate outcomes of nursing care through weekly assessment utilizing nursing process. • Communicate the plan of care and other pertinent patient/family information to/from other healthcare team members: radiation therapists, social service, dietary, and VNA and community services. • Recognize the inter-relationships between cultural, social, spiritual, economic, psychological and biological factors. • Provide and maintain a safe and therapeutic environment for the patient and family. • The Massachusetts General Hospital Department of Radiation Oncology is a leader in developing and implementing some of the most innovative and effective radiation therapies in the world. • The Department of Radiation Oncology combines clinical expertise, compassionate care, and advanced radiation therapies to deliver the safest, most effective treatments for cancer and benign tumors. Qualifications


Qualified RN candidates will have: • ASN or BSN from an accredited nursing program (BSN preferred) • A current Massachusetts license as a Registered Nurse • A minimum of 2 (two) years of Medical-Surgical nursing and preferably 1 (one) year of oncology nursing or 3-years pediatric oncology experience • Oncology Certification preferred, working towards attainment of OCN or expectation of certification within discussed timeframe of employment.
