Job Summary
A Patient Safety Monitor is a caregiver who provides patients in need of supervision with companionship and care. Patient Safety Monitors provide a compassionate substitute for restraints, seclusion rooms and other measures to deal with challenging patients.
Under the supervision of clinical staff, patient sitters position themselves in their assigned patient's room to maintain constant visual observation of the patient If the patient has any worries or concerns about how they're feeling, or if their symptoms are worsening, patient sitters listen to these problems and relay them to the appropriate nurse so that further action can be taken if necessary. The role provides care in a manner that soothes patients, observes for changes in their condition, and summons nursing staff where necessary. It is important that patient sitters desist from performing unauthorized duties.
Qualifications
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
1. Observes 1:1 patient watches for any behavior that could indicate potential problems for patient or staff.
a. Remains alert at all times while on duty, ensuring supervision of patient at all times.
b. Observes room for safe environment for behavioral health patients, visitors & staff.
c. Monitors overall safety of patient.
d. Immediately reports any changes in patient behavior to clinical staff / RN in charge of the Patient.
e. Provides patients with emotional support.
f. Alerts nursing staff when patients need help.
2. Management of Information
a. Handles sensitive, private information with a high level of discretion, maintaining confidentiality of patient information.
b. Make immediate decisions, in emergent response situations, while maintaining composure.
c. Maintains routine patient watch logs.
d. Communicates effectively at various social levels.
Qualifications - External
Experience Minimum Required
3+ mos in a customer service related position with proven, effective communication skills at various social levels
Education Minimum Required
HS Diploma or equivalent
