Job Summary
Under the general supervision of the Administrative Manager and the Manager of Orthopaedic Technicians, this position is responsible for providing Orthopaedic services to patients in a busy Ambulatory Clinic. This position will help support the newly opened Mass General Brigham Sports Medicine and Upper Extremity Center located in Waltham, MA, and will primarily be focused on managing the Durable Medical Equipment (DME) and casting needs of the patients. • Receives prescription for OTS devices from physician; evaluates patient orthotic needs. Consults with physician on more complex cases or when additional information is needed. • Evaluates orthosis on patient in collaboration with physician to ensure maximum fit, function, cosmeses and quality of workmanship. • Recommends alternate methods of construction/design to physician when appropriate; suggests/recommends new materials to physician when necessary. • Designs, fabricates, fits and repairs OTS devices including surgical supports. • Utilizes knowledge of various materials such as plastic, cloth and leather. • Participates in the evaluation of orthosis on patient to ensure proper fit, function, cosmeses and quality. • Teaches and educates patients about the proper use and maintenance procedures of his/her orthotic device and shoe gear. • Removes and applies casts and supporting dressing, focused on the upper extremity/hand. • Assists physician with fracture reduction, setting dislocations and suture removal. • Distributes Orthopaedic aids such as crutches and canes and instructs patients in their use and also maintains inventory of such Orthopaedic equipment, in storage as well as in service. • Documents patient medical records with pertinent data regarding type of orthosis prescribed, education provided and outcome. • Maintains work area and equipment in a clean and orderly manner. • Utilizes electronic software system for inventory management - maintaining necessary par levels and ordering supplies as needed to meet patient demand. • Maintains files/records for purchase orders, supplies, inventory management • Provides back up coverage to other Orthopaedic clinics as needed (i.e. Foot & Ankle Center, MGH Boston) as directed by Orthopaedic Technician manager • Performs other duties as assigned by the Administrative Manager and/or Orthopaedic Technician Manager



Qualifications


-High school diploma or equivalent required -ATC certification is preferred -possess Knowledge and demonstrate proper techniques Working with tools required to fabricate orthoses -Casting experience strongly preferred Outpatient physician office. Primarily in Waltham MA
