Job Summary
GENERAL SUMMARY/ OVERVIEW STATEMENT:


Under general direction of Chief of Pain Medicine & Administrative Manager, individual performs a variety of patient contact duties related to the operations of radiologic equipment to make clinical X-ray images as directed by a physician. Explains safety protocols and routine procedures to patients. The individual must have the capability of performing routine procedures with speed, method, accuracy and understanding utilizing various radiographic equipment such as fluoroscopic, portable and c-arm.


PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:


Conducts equipment system warm-up and quality assurance procedures according to established guidelines to ensure a safe and effective equipment operation.


Correctly identifies the patient by checking patients identification band against requisition prior to the start of procedure.


Correctly interprets exam requests making sure history conforms to exam requested.


Obtains patient vital signs and communicates directly with the Center's physician staff.


Focuses on preparing patients physically and emotionally for various treatments in the Center, through Interview, physical assessment, education, recovery and patient instruction in self-care.


Positions and instructs patients regarding the procedures. Must be cognizant of patient's condition at all times.


Selects proper exposure factors for procedure.


Arranges or adjusts immobilization and supportive devices to obtain the desired radiographic positions and to prevent patients from moving and lessen patients' discomfort.


Adjusts lead shield(s) and collimates to protect unaffected parts of the body from exposure to radiation. Directs personnel to safe area before exposure.


Responsible for identifying, preparing, and handling medications as prescribed by a licensed practitioner.


Assist's in turning over procedure and exam rooms.


Acts as a primary liaison between our patients and the physician staff and serves as a critical link in providing seamless continuity of care.


Monitors the clinical schedule to keep physician and team on track for the day.


Acquires and maintains knowledge of related topics to include, but not limited to radiation safety, universal precaution, disposal of contaminated material, proper handling of requisitions (both before and after procedure), interpersonal skills, communications and dealing with difficult situations, etc.


Maintains knowledge of the location of emergency equipment and the procedure necessary to alert the code team.


Maintains a high level of quality assurance for finished radiographs, safe and clean working environment.


Maintains a high standard of professionalism at all times.



Qualifications



QUALIFICATIONS:





  • A minimum of high school diploma and successful completion of an accredited school of Radiologic Technology.

  • Must be certified by the ARRT and must possess a valid license to practice as a radiologic technologist in the state of Massachusetts.






SKILLS/ ABILITIES/ COMPETENCIES REQUIRED:



Knowledge of anatomy, cross-sectional anatomy, physiology, medical terminology.


Knowledge of the principles of radiation physics and radiographic chemistry.


Knowledge of radiographic positioning and radiographic equipment.


Knowledge of universal precautions.


Effective interpersonal and communications skills.


Attention to detail.


Ability to provide compassionate care to patients.


Ability to recognize emergency situations and respond appropriately.


Ability to lift over 5 lbs.


Must be able to read and write English.


Must be able to perform clinical duties at a high level both Individually and as a team member.


Must be able to handle difficult situations.


Must be able to function on a high energy team and demonstrate success through teamwork.


Must demonstrate appropriate knowledge of the principles of growth and development of patients of all age groups. Must demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served on the assigned unit.
