Job Summary
The Brigham and Women's Primary Care Physician Assistant I is a member of the Primary care team. The Physician Assistant (PA) is a licensed provider. The PA is responsible for the assessment and management of various populations of patients, medical and/or surgical, including diagnostic and therapeutic interventions, development of appropriate plans of care and ongoing evaluation. The Physician Assistant will work in a remote/virtual capacity as part of the team covering Primary Care work curated for them within their inbasket folders. They will need to be on site for the first few weeks and then position will be fully remote. Specifics of this work will be defined over the roll-out of this initiative and will change over time. Telephone encounters/messages will range from routine to emergent and will require patient assessment, diagnosis, outcome identification, planning, implementation, and evaluation. The PA will work to resolve Patient Gateway messages in real time by either providing clinical advice or offering a virtual visit. The PA will place orders for testing, vaccines, referrals, or refills following refill protocols, not including controlled substances. They will be responsible to follow up on orders placed. Communication within pools with PCPs, nurses, medical assistants, practice administrative support, and practice leadership will be required. The PA will be required to meet virtual visit/phone call/message metrics as set by Primary Care. T he PA in this role must be fluent in spanish & have experience with Pediatric patients. While the PA can expect a relatively predictable work schedule planned in advance whenever possible, scheduling variations may occur in order to cover clinical needs as they become apparent to the department/division/clinic. The PA may occasionally be asked to work clinically and/or provide coverage of team members and colleagues. The PA is responsible for being accessible after hours during the week for urgent results of tests they have ordered. The PA is responsible for checking their Epic inbasket regularly & responding to time sensitive info as needed, even when not in the office or on site. No Licenses and Certifications Licenses/Certifications Time Frame Required/ Preferred And/Or Certified Physician Assistant (State License) upon hire required Work Experience Experience Details Years of Experience Required/ Preferred And/Or experience as a physician assistant 5 years strongly preferred Fluent in Spanish & Experience with Pediatric patients Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Skilled in taking medical histories to assess medical condition and interpret findings Ability to maintain quality control standards Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations Ability to interpret, adapt and apply guidelines and procedures Ability to communicate clearly and establish/maintain effective working relationships with patients, medical staff and the public. Must be fluent in Spanish.
