The department of Public Safety has an exciting opportunity for a Crime Prevention Officer to work on site at the UHealth Downtown Campus. The Crime Prevention Officer oversees the crime prevention programs, services, initiatives and special projects on campus. Additionally, the Crime Prevention Officer provides assistance to individuals that are on University grounds in the event of an emergency.



CORE JOB FUNCTIONS



  • Manages and coordinates all crime prevention programs

  • Researches and develops new and innovative crime prevention programs

  • Researches and presents proposals to improve safety of campus

  • Develops and conducts various public speaking assignments and interviews related to safety and crime prevention issues

  • Manages and directs the 'Canes Resource Officer program Performs victim advocate duties, computer crime mapping system, crime analysis, and prepares and submits all crime reports mandated by the State and Federal Government

  • Assumes responsibility for Clery Act compliance

  • Researches and write articles for publications, and oversees publication and dissemination of brochures, guides and promotional items

  • Maintains, troubleshoots and prepares new installation proposals for the Blue Light Telephone system

  • Recommends and oversees installation of safety and security devices Conduct security surveys Develops and maintains the Police Department website Patrol duties on as-needed basis

  • Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets.

CORE QUALIFICATIONS




Education:



High School diploma or equivalent required



Certification and Licensing:



FDLE certification



Experience:



Minimum 5 year of relevant experience required

Department Specific Functions



  • Act as principal investigator and will provide follow-through on security reports that require correction. Investigates security violations, unusual occurrences, property losses, and other incidents.

  • Is expected to work flexible shift hours when an investigation can only be done during non-regular shift hours.

  • This is an administrative function that will normally be a non supervisory role and completely independent of the normal daily Security Officer function. However, incumbent may be asked to assume responsibilities of a Shift Commander and/or lead officer when the Shift Commander or lead officer is absent, or when requested to do so.

  • Incumbent reports to the Manager of Crime Prevention or in his absence, to the Security Operations Manager. Will be responsible for conducting Medical Campus investigations and for providing follow-up for security breaches. Will develop and manage special surveillance of high loss areas when required and take other pro-active steps to reduce loss. While working in a supervisory role, incumbent is responsible for enforcement of all security measures, policies and procedures.

  • Responsible for following all policies and procedures and/or other directives of management.

  • Will conduct security investigations; write necessary reports, and follow-through with law enforcement agencies to ensure that all necessary action has been taken.

  • Assist in preparations and updating comprehensive security orders and procedures applicable to the security program.

  • Will specifically look for new and better ways to do things so the department and the University can maximize the efficiency of the security protection program.

  • Provides response to all departments for any matter pertaining to security.

  • Will consistently demonstrate sound judgment, clear thinking, leadership abilities, self-initiative and ability to handle emergency situations and/or other stressful situations.

  • In addition to processing superior reactive skills, incumbent is also expected to have above average pro-active skills and ability to reorganize the potential for future security/safety problems before they occur.

  • Is expected to set and work flexible hours to ensure that investigations and other problems are quickly and thoroughly followed through.

  • Assists all departments in security matters and provides interface to report and correct security problems.

  • Investigates all security problems and follows through to see they are corrected.

  • Must maintain excellent personal relationships with all campus administrators and staff and maintain sound working relationships with other entities and outside law enforcement agencies.

  • Must know University policies and procedures that pertain to all employees and/or that may conflict with investigative techniques and/or outcomes.

  • Assists in providing in-service training for other departments and does new employee orientations.

  • Maintains strong interface with all departmental supervisors and keeps them informed on action taken to correct reported security/safety problems and status of others matters pertaining to the efficient operations of the department.

  • Performs additional duties as assigned.
