Assistant Professor Marine Conservation, Environmental Science and Policy
The Department of Environmental Science and Policy at the University of Miami's Rosenstiel School of Marine, Atmospheric, and Earth Science is recruiting a tenure-track faculty member. The position is focused on marine conservation, with a particular interest in shark conservation in collaboration with the Robert K. Johnson Center for Marine Conservation. Successful candidates may draw from diverse disciplinary and professional backgrounds relevant to marine conservation. We seek candidates with experiences, skills, and vision relevant to guiding and supporting thriving undergraduate and graduate programs and research-based education; effectively engaging with students in and out of the classroom; and advancing conservation through engagement, communications, and outreach. The position will have a balanced emphasis on research, teaching, and service.
The Department's mission is solutions-oriented, policy-relevant research and scholarship, training the next generations of environmental managers, practitioners, and research scientists (https://environmental-science-policy.earth.miami.edu/). Our faculty are leading scholars in the applied environmental social sciences dedicated to addressing pressing ocean, coastal, and climate challenges central to long-term sustainability and resilience. We are the hub at the Rosenstiel School for connecting the natural sciences with society and policy. Research-based education, field experiences, and scholarship connected with communities and policymaking are central in our student programs. Our work is supported by major university-wide interdisciplinary initiatives, such as the Abess Center for Ecosystem Science and Policy and the University Laboratory for Integrative Knowledge (U-LINK).
The Department of Environmental Science and Policy is grounded in the intrinsic relationship between diversity and excellence and is strongly committed to fostering and sustaining open, equitable access to learning as our mission and our obligation. The Department seeks faculty who would add to the Rosenstiel School's long-standing goal of increasing diversity, inclusion, and equity across our departments. Applications will be considered at assistant professor rank and possibly associate or full for highly experienced candidates with exceptional qualifications. The appointment is expected to start August 15, 2025. To be eligible for appointment, applicants must have a Ph.D. or terminal degree (e.g., J.D.) in Environmental Science and Policy or a related field by the expected start date of August 2025.
