Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit:

The Office of Scholarships and Student Aid works to ensure that qualified students have the opportunity to study at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill regardless of their ability to pay. The office serves students at all levels, including graduate and professional school students and coordinates all student financial support for the campus. The office assists in the recruitment, retention and success of students while maximizing available funds, exercising good stewardship of those funds, and performing related research, analysis and program evaluation in support of long-range enrollment and campus goals. In addition, the office provides academic and co-circular support services for scholarships, provides financial literacy and educational tools, and partners with faculty and other student success areas across campus to provide excellent service to low- and middle-income students and other scholarship recipients. The work of the office is public in nature and closely scrutinized by students and their families, lawmakers, faculty and staff at the University, and by the media (local, regional, and national).


Position Summary:

The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill seeks a dynamic, student-focused individual to assist our scholarships team on a part-time basis for the period of January through May to support the UNC Scholars Program within the Office of Scholarships and Student Aid.


The UNC Scholars Program encompasses nine distinctive, high-impact scholarships and a scholar community of approximately 600 students. The objective of the program is to provide cohesion and programmatic features to enhance their college experience. These features include faculty mentoring, social gatherings, and campus events. It also provides information to prospective Scholar and their parents as they navigate the college decision process.


Duties include (but are not limited to):
* Being a welcoming presence in our Scholars Suite, 2-3 days a week
* Assisting with basic information about the program and responding to general email requests
* Creating content for the weekly Scholars newsletter
* Assisting with general programming needs and events (already pre-scheduled)
* Other clerical and light administrative duties pertaining to scholarship support and communication
* Providing support as needed for the Associate Director


Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:

High school diploma or equivalency and one year of related office experience; or equivalent combination of training and experience.


Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience:

Excellent written and oral communication skills required. Also important is the ability to think creatively and critically. The selected candidate must have superior organizational skills and attention to detail. Must possess ability to research individual issues and adjust processes to address special individual concerns while maintaining a calm, pleasant, and helpful disposition.


Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience:

Experience working in a higher ed setting.


Campus Security Authority Responsibilities:


This position is designated as a Campus Security Authority in accordance with the Clery Act. This position will be required to report Clery crimes to the Clery Compliance Manager and complete annual training about reporting responsibilities.
