Lonza is seeking an experienced and dynamic Director of Ethics & Compliance to support our global ethics and compliance programs. This role will focus on key areas such as anti-bribery, anti-corruption, and human rights compliance, while managing internal investigations across all business and corporate functions. The ideal candidate will have substantial experience in an in-house legal or compliance department, demonstrating a strong understanding of regulatory obligations, the ability to conduct risk assessments and the implementation of program improvements and operational controls. This position will be pivotal in developing, executing, and monitoring compliance programs, policies, and training to ensure the highest standards of ethical conduct and regulatory adherence within Lonza.
Key Responsibilities:
Manage the company’s (1) anti-bribery and anti-corruption compliance program and (2) human rights compliance program globally, including:
demonstrating understanding of and ensuring compliance with legal and regulatory obligations and stakeholder expectations as appropriate for our organization;
identifying and assessing areas of risk, including designing and conducting risk assessments and utilizing data as a risk-indicator;
identifying, developing and implementing risk mitigation measures, including policies, procedures and internal operational controls, and monitoring and testing the same for effectiveness;
developing and executing internal training programs,
supporting internal and external reporting regarding the programs, including by preparing presentations and disclosures
Provide guidance and oversight for the company’s third-party screening program to ensure identification of risk and appropriate mitigation in dealing with third-parties, ensuring the program complies with regulator and other stakeholder expectations and effectively manages risk
Conduct internal investigations into alleged violations of company policies, applicable laws or regulations or other wrongdoing, including ensuring objective, thorough and well-documented investigations, conducting root cause analyses of any substantiated allegations and recommending remedial measures in each case in collaboration with other stakeholders (Legal, HR, Quality, IT, EHS, outside counsel, etc.)
Manage the company’s philanthropic donation program, including identifying and evaluating recipients for Lonza’s donations in alignment with company strategy, legal requirements and internal policies and procedures
Lead the global, Ethics Ambassador Program including general support, training, and communications
Generally, work closely with all business functions, divisions and senior management. Actively assist company in achieving business objectives. Demonstrate strategic value and competence in applying analytical and critical thinking skills to daily in-house ethics and compliance matters
Perform other duties as assigned by General Counsel, Head of E&C and/or Group General Counsel
Key Requirements:
Significant experience in ethics and compliance within an in-house legal or compliance department
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, able to engage with all stakeholders, including Ethics Ambassadors/Liaisons
Strong business acumen with sound legal judgment and experience conducting risk assessments
Effective problem-solving skills and a proactive mindset
Quick to learn new areas and adapt to changes
Strong time management and ability to prioritize effectively
High ethical standards and integrity in all professional interactions

The full-time base annual salary for this Remote position is expected to range between $196,200.00 and $228,900.00. Compensation for the role will depend on a number of factors, including the successful candidate’s education, qualifications, skills, competencies, experience, and job-related knowledge.
