Job Description:

Basic Function:

This position is responsible for the design and development of new products and the maintenance of existing products, in accordance with the expectations of our customers and the strategies of the company, using strong technical and project management skills.

Nature and Scope:

Glenair is a vertically integrated designer and manufacturer of connectors (electrical and optical), accessories, conduit, and cable assemblies. The Senior Engineer will manage projects and provide support to others within the department, and will work closely with inter-company team members and external customers and suppliers.

This position is responsible for the design, development, and analysis of new products (both bid packages as well as initial production) for our Mil-spec and commercial Nano product line, which support our customers and for the maintenance and updating of existing designs and drawings to assure continued compliance with customer and company specifications and requirements. Participation in industry technical committees and organizations required as well as occasional travel to customer/supplier locations.

The Senior Engineer will possess the following skills required to perform his/her duties:

  • BS Engineering degree and 3 years minimum experience as a Project/Engineer in a similar industry.
  • Three years experience in connector/interconnect/electro-mechanical industry, preferably aerospace related.
  • Excellent knowledge of machining/metal working processes, molding, casting, plating, and general fabrication/assembly in a mid-to-high volume environment.
  • Strong analytical skills in statics, dynamics, materials selection, stress and tolerance analysis, including ANSI-Y-14.5 and DOD-D-1000.
  • Ability to direct and perform the fabrication and assembly (hands-on) of new and modified designs, define clear work instructions, and to support the required tooling for fabrication and assembly.
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written; professional demeanor and the ability to successfully interface with all levels of personnel, both internally as well as with our customers/suppliers.
  • Ability to plan technical projects, including costing, scheduling (including PERT/CPM, GANTT, etc.), identification of resource requirements, risk, and subsequent execution to the plan.
  • Participates and directs the activity of designers, draftspersons, technicians, and others to successfully execute technical projects within cost, schedule and performance constraints; strong leadership skills and ability to leverage technical talents and personal skills in day-to-day interface with others.
  • Strong knowledge of test methods and equipment used to support the evaluation of our products, including mechanical, electrical and environmental testing.
  • Strong knowledge of concurrent engineering and Total Quality Management principles, and demonstrated ability to apply this knowledge in practice.

Principal Accountabilities:

  • Works with sales organization and customers to execute the development of new products that support customer needs and company strategies, goals, and objectives.
  • Analyze and perform/facilitate the maintenance and updating of existing product designs to assure compliance with appropriate customer and company specifications and continued cost effective produce able designs.
  • Provides direction to and works concurrently with manufacturing, purchasing, material control, and quality assurance to assure continued cost effective produce ability of existing products and produce ability and reliability of new products.
  • Provides input and support to Sales and Quality Assurance in developing timely and appropriate responses to customer product problems and questions.
  • Is a participant on industry technical committees and technical groups to assure continued call-out of existing company products and to assure that the company stays abreast of new interconnect opportunities.
  • Applies Project Management skills to new product development and process improvement efforts, facilitating success in technical/cost performance with efficient use of Glenair's resources.

Ideally, we would like someone based at our Glendale facility in SoCal. However, hybrid/flexible working is possible for an ideal candidate.
